Yes. I just started doing player signings this year. They do help bring in more customers. Many shows in Michigan use the same old signers over and over again. In the near future I'm gonna be focusing on athletes who have never signed in the area. If I were you look for retired players in your area. Find them by browsing the "through the mail" autograph address lists.

That's a great idea to find athletes! Thank you! I was wondering how much the photos cost as well (assuming I have to pay for the photos for the athlete to sign).

Luckily, there are A LOT of players in the area - a few are even into cards from what I'm told (Dmitri Young comes to mind).

Wow just as I was about to bump this up there's been some recent activity! Thanks for all the responses and comments guys! Anyway just finished my first year and am back home for the summer. Been organizing and adding new inventory in preparation for my first show! Some numbers in the OP have been updated.

*5/31/2015 Update*: Just finished my first year of college about 3 weeks ago. Been going hard at organizing and updating my inventory. Purchased a few large lots while at school and am working at getting them in and all organized. Some of the numbers below have been updated. Also talked to the man at the show and was told table cost is $65 for a 6 foot table. Seems kinda expensive to me :-( but oh well it's worth a shot. Have about a case worth of 2014 Draft Baseball to sort into my $0.10-$2.00 bins. Also the numbers below do not include my showcase cards $25-UP I imagine I'll have around 75 of those. Also may have a section for just prospecting..which would include base autos, Slabs, etc.

Basketball Jerseys/Autos sorted by team: 208 count

Baseball Jerseys/Autos sorted by team: 273 count

Football Jerseys/Autos sorted by team: 444 count

Misc (Soccer, Nascar, Hockey, etc.): 17 count

Total amount of $3 jerseys/autos: 942 count

$5 Basketball, Baseball, Football Jerseys/Autos: 219 count

$10 Basketball, Baseball, Football Jerseys/Autos: 56 count

$15 Basketball, Baseball, Football Jerseys/Autos: 20 count

$20 Basketball, Baseball, Football Jerseys/Autos: 17 count

1/1s Baseball, Football: 19 count

You should get two 6 foot tables for that price, way too high.
When is the show?

Thanks for creating this thread, OP, and thank to everyone who has responded. I've contemplated testing the waters at some smaller local shows this summer and this thread has given me a great idea on how to attempt going about it.

Just my opinion although those are the guys I like to buy the whole table

Certainly gives a little more clarity and not in a good way. Some people aren't cut out for conversation.

Way to be supportive of the hobby and your fellow man. I see that you ego is still running rampant.

Perfect description of the type of guys that are absolute drags at shows. Have fun, talk sports, and make friends.

I would highly recommend purchasing a price gun off Ebay and get to work tagging every card. More than half the buyers are turned off by cards not being priced. Just make sure to leave room for people to bargain with you.

1) local team is always a safe bet as far as selling. I'm from long island for example and I can't keep Syndergaard and Matz autos in stock.

2) cheaper boxes always do well at the shows I go to so that's definitely a good idea.

3) I agree with others who suggest having an attention grabber or two at least.

If it's a smaller show I wouldn't go crazy with a lot of higher end items unless you notice that those kind of people are around. I know by me dealers struggle with higher end items to the general public.

When I was younger I did a summer show and an older dealer told me if your ever going to set up do so in winter.

Also if you know anyone (family/friends) that do cards try and get them to come visit you. Maybe they'll surprise you and you'll get a sale from them. My biggest sale when I set up a couple years ago was a guy I know from Twitter.
