Default For the most part are dealers at nationals fair with their prices?

This is going to be my first time going and was wondering is for the most part the dealers prices fair or are they crazy high since tables are real expensive?

I haven't been to one yet either but my guess is that dealers get better with pricing towards the end of the week as they don't want to take stuff home with them..just a guess

It all depends on what you're looking for, I went to the national last year and found some good deals. There's a ton of vintage, some newer stuff, etc. The newer boxes are mostly set at a fixed price so don't expect huge deals on new unopened wax, but some might have some older boxes you could get deals on.

Well worth the visit, I'd walk a little before jumping into buying at the first dealer you see. I got some really nice deals from a guy on a bunch of refractors but then he wouldn't budge on some museum base that he wanted a few dollars a piece for cards. Some guys have nickel boxes, dime boxes, quarter boxes, dollar, etc. Most guys will work with you on pricing but it can look over priced depending on what you're searching for. Different sellers for different appetites

Wax deals will be good, wrapper redemption programs should be solid, and you will see some really cool stuff in showcases.

Prices will be ridiculous for most stuff. Happy Hunting!!

i second this... but at the same time, if you know how to wheel and deal, you will get stuff you want. I am also one that does not mind paying a little extra on something if it is a PC card I want for my Peyton pc or top 100....but you are going to hear some crazy prices. Last year, what dealers were charging for Luck stuff was insane...and the more insane part was that people were still buying his stuff left and right.

wax will be the cheapest you ever see since there are so many companies competing with each other with wax.

The only crazy prices I've seen are some of the 1/1's or lower numbered HOF relics. The dealers pay a lot to be there and are there to sell. Sometimes brand new singles are priced high similar to the 1st ones on Ebay.

Firstly, I appreciate that you understand just how expensive it is to set up at the National.

But what it really comes down to is how well you know the hobby and how lazy you are. If you just want to walk around, point at crazy cards, and ask prices - yeah, they're going to be through the roof. If you spend a little more time browsing - there are deals to be had everywhere.

Last year I found it difficult to work bulk deals but I bought plenty at dealers asking prices.

Bulk deals as in their total on 6 cards added up to $58. I couldn't get them to go $50 for example

High end cards were overpriced looking for that one sucker to buy.

Lower end cards had some great deals.

Tons of wax options, so shop around a bit.

Best deals are on the last days of the shows - dealers don't want to sell too cheap early on.

All depends on what you are looking for.

To answer your question properly, yes there are plenty of great things to be had. Yes, people will overcharge on some items, but if you look at the big picture, everybody will be competing with each other, especially on newer stuff. Then again, it's all based on what you are willing to pay for something.

Check out or booth (360 and 261). We'll have a ton of stuff fairly priced and are always looking to buy also.

I'll probably be more firm on prices the first couple days, but will discount more towards the weekend. I'll have about 3-5k $3 each or 5 for $10 cards mostly and a couple showcases of mid-priced cards available...first Nationals, so really trying to get a feel for it to maybe set up next year as well....

I go mainly for memorabilia and I found that the dealers were definitely flexible on pricing.

Mill Creek has been great in years past when I wanted to get some Ichiro based stuff.

You definitely will run into dealers who are obviously just there to show off what they have with no expectation to sell based on the pricing they have.
This honestly boggles my mind cause as it was shared above, it's not cheap to set up there.
But I guess you only have to find one sucker to make your weekend worth while.

eBay Sold Listings don't seem to matter either.
I was looking at a Ty Cobb signed check and asked what he wanted, he told me $x,xxx.
I offered a number based off of the last couple sold listings on eBay (an average, not the lowest) and he thought I was nuts.

Maybe I was in the wrong, but sold listings on eBay seem to be today's price guide.

Based off of every other show I have ever been at: 5-10% of dealers will be around ebay and the rest will be 15-20% over ebay. But that's just a guess.

I've never set up so I have no experience but I never understood why dealers charged over eBay. If you are receiving cash immediately and don't have to ship, you would think dealers would want to be reasonable with pricing.
