Topps Chrome On Card Autos

What year did Topps Chrome start using On Card Autos for the Rookie Autographs? And how would you rate collectability value vs. Bowman?

I don't Set collect Chrome, but I'm warming up to the rookie autographs for the image variation from the flagship Topps sets, and I was thinking of chasing after these.

Aside from the autographed Rookie cards frequently having different images from flagship, scattered other cards in Chrome will have a unique image as well. And the same thing will happen in Opening Day. Players traded in February will be the most likely candidates. If they then get a card in Update they can end up with four different images in S1/OD/Chrome/Update

Thanks for the feed back base set. I like the opening day image variations, when I can find them.

Flippers like BC, but I like TC because of the rookie logo. :P

I agree, as far a money goes bowman chrome will always be more, as far as appeal though I think topps chrome is generally a better looking card

Interestingly this is not always true with lesser names, probably because of the collectibility aspect.

For what it's worth, at least some of BC's value comes from activity that is eerily similar to ticket touting or scalping.

2009 has a rectangular outline that looks like a sticker would go there but I believe all are on card.

Thanks for the great feedback. Much appreciated. I agree about the design. I usually prefer Topps Chrome over the Bowman designs I've seen. Thanks for listing out the years, DarkTiger. I tried viewing images on COMC to get an idea, and some years like 2009,were very hard to tell.

BTW, I hear Topps Heritage Minor League Autos are going On Card this year. I've been buying the sticker autos to complete my set, but if true, I'm looking forward to breaking some minor league hobby boxes this year.

I collect Corey Seager. Topps continually uses the same action shot of him swinging. I wish there was more creativity. His topps, topps chrome auto, and topps chrome nonauto all have the same photo (so it appears), they put little effort into it

Yeah that's kind of random. Even Topps stickers sometimes uses repeat images ... but sometimes not.

Now I just scroll through COMC images to look for variations instead of building full Opening Day and Chrome sets, though I really enjoyed that in 2013. I probably should have tried that for '15, I prefer that design to '14 or '16. Maybe next year.

I don't know how a card will grade. I rarely take more than 1 look at a card after I purchase or ebay or receive it in a break. Payments are expected within 6 hours of purchase. Failure to pay / communicate within a 6 hour timeframe will result in cancellation.
