Dear God!

You sir have a deal. The kind words are enough but I actually do not own any vintage cards for my collection, but I have a nice little Namath section on my shelf that would look amazing with!

If you ever change your mind and decided to not part with it, I would totally understand, this is an incredible gesture if(err when I make this weight) that I wouldn't blame you at all if you reconsidered.

Heh, the wrath from the BO police would not be worth holding onto the card!

Excellent. I only ask that you bump the thread with your progress as you go along the journey. Good luck! (And if you have a big holiday meal planned for Christmas, Easter etc ... make sure to take seconds!)

That is a nice gesture and motivation Chap!

Also, enjoy the holidays Chris, don't deny yourself right around now, because the wall of suck will happen (basically not eating anything awesome), just a matter of when.

If you like to play basketball and volleyball and can do it a few times a week, I would suggest doing that over doing something you hate. Both are great exercises and it will feel like less of a chore doing something you enjoy. Also stick to your diet, regardless of your exercise if you never cheat yourself on your diet you'll lose the weight. If you want a tougher work out but don't want to do weights and if you live up north, shovel snow. It burns a lot of calories and you work lots of muscle groups in doing so. When the weather is nice I would also recommend riding bike everywhere you can. I did so when I wanted to get in a bit better shape years back (Road around 7 miles a day which is easy to do) combined with counting calories and I dropped 45lbs in a few months and was in the best shape of my life. That and bike riding is easy on your joints (my knees are terrible).

The longer you stick to your diet the easier it will get because your stomach will start to adjust to the amount of food you're eating and the hungry feeling will go away. In the meantime I would stock up on things that fill you up with little calories like veggies (Why I enjoyed subway). Steady wins the race, don't cheat on your diet and don't over due the workouts and you'll be 70+ lbs lighter and have a great Namath card to boot.

Needchapmans: What a great and kind gesture. I sure hope he makes you pay up on the offer. You should have made it July 5th to make sure he didn't over do it eating BBQ on the 4th or something.

Thank you all for the encouraging words and motivation.

I am going to enjoy myself during the holidays. Specifically tomorrow. I arranged a meeting for my fantasy league to go to a Brazilian steakhouse with all you can eat steak. Its my favorite restaurant so I will be partaking in that. I usually don't go to off the wall for holiday dinners. My hardest problem will be at night and grazing while watching TV.

Im trying to cut myself of from eating anything after 730.

The difficult part right now is adjusting my insulin pump to prevent my sugar from crashing, so there is going to be a feeling out process, but so far today my sugars have all been under 150, so that is pretty encouraging so far.

Besides the number on the scale dropping, there are so many other moving parts that will be beneficial with these lifestyle changes.

Work's almost over for the day then I am going to go home hit the gym for some cardio and legs and then indulge in some fish and sweet potato fries.

Keep remembering the high you felt each week when you would see 5 pounds drop off your weight and adding 10 more pounds onto the bar. You've done this before, you can do it again. Good luck to you.

Day 2 Update...on day 3

I was dead last night after the gym so after i came home and showered and turned on the TV, I was out like a light. I don't know the last time I fell asleep before 10PM(usually its 1-2AM)

Did 30 Mins on the elliptical yesterday and went over 2 Miles and burned over 400 calories(though I don't trust machine calculations so maybe its more...maybe its less)

With a minute to go on the elliptical I was drained, but I saw I was at 1.84M on the distance, so I amped it up and made sure to hit the 2 Mile mark.

Once again I stayed away from food after 7PM and only had some water and my all but one of my sugars were under 150 for the day.

Positive: I'm using this as my first benchmark. I used to get way more than 2 miles in 30 mins, so as it gets easier and easier, I can clearly see how much more i can push myself and progress. Slowly adding more intervals speeding up.

Today's agenda:
Morning blood sugar was perfect at 113, so i'm starting the day off on a high note. other than that, today is going to be a quiet day. I am going to a Brazilian steakhouse with more than half of the fantasy league I run and this will be the first time a lot of these guys get a chance to meet each other, so thats exciting. I plan on walking on my breaks and lunch since I wont be able to make it to the gym tonight.

Hope everyone has a great day

I went through a similar change a few years back. Dropped from 300+ to 205-210. I would suggest insanity. There are a few different versions but I found those worked better to burn and tone all parts of the body. Especially if you add some cardio on top of it. Good luck!

Congrats man. Those Elipcitals are no joke if you've never used one before lol. Tried it for the first time last year and 5 Mins in I was gassed lol.

Enjoy the Steakhouse, try to workout an extra hour if possible the day before or after. I knew a guy who kept every tab from his beer he drank. That way when he checked his pocket he could count how much "extra" he had to do at the gym.

Chapman, that's a fantastic gesture. Good luck Chris hope you make it.

If you don't mind me asking Chris, (that's your name as well as user right?) How tall are you? Making me think I should post on here as well, hoping to knock about 50 pounds next year as well. I hate being out of shape, but damn, I love food to much lol.

Yep, thats my real name haha.

as for the height, I'm 6-1.

And yea, I'll be putting in some extra work tomorrow for this, and probably Friday as well haha.

bacon wrapped filet mignon, bacon wrapped turkey, garlic steak, skirt steak, sausages, prosciutto, top round.....im already salivating thinking about it.

We are having a company lunch today but i passed on that because I'm eating myself into oblivion tonight. haha

walked about a mile on my break this morning in the cold. My legs are slowly getting feeling back.

At your weight everything you do is going to burn a lot of calories. Just don't over due it where you injure yourself or wear yourself out mentally or physically. Another piece of big advice I can give is, try your best not to drink your calories. Its one thing to watch what you eat but we often forget how easy it is to drink 1000 calories a day without even realizing it. 2 miles walking is the same as 2 miles on the elliptical.

Just like when I ran every day for 6 months (I hate running as well) I quickly realized walking a mile and running a mile other than time the difference is minimal calorie wise.

thanks for the tips.

I actually don't drink at all, so alcohol for me is irrelevant, but every now and then I have some iced tea. I basically cut soda out altogether even before getting back into it.

Not sure he meant solely Alcohol. McDonald's is really the only close place to eat near my work. So I get a Dr Pepper all the time. The Large Dr Pepper is like 400 calories. If I have two of those without even thinking would be an easy 800 calories.

When I said drink I meant in general not alcohol although that has a good deal of calories in it. Thats great you don't drink soda a lot of people I know couldn't kick the habit. I had a friend who stopped drinking soda and complained he didn't lose any weight. I asked him what he drank instead he said juice and powerade. Which is just as bad but it sounds healthy. He didn't realize how much sugar was in juice. I try to stick to water and low calorie vitamin water. I do drink Coke Zero on occasion when I want soda which still isn't healthy but I don't gain weight drinking it.

I was never as much as you and was only heavy for maybe a year but the 45 I did lose I have kept off and then some. And its been several years. Once you lose the weight (and you will) be conscious about your weight from there on out because its easy to relapse. I do it all the time but I have a set weight I don't let myself get over and if I do I start cutting back sweets and exercise more. I remember how great I felt after losing 45.

Oh and I tried that Insanity crap (which is like P90x), its not for everyone. If you want to do an exercise that will beat you into submission and make you hate life and has a strong likelyhood to injure you go for it. I'm very athletic and have played sports nonstop all my life year round,I am 36 now and it as just too hard on my body after a few days.

If you want to be smart and steady, go walking/bike riding, easy work outs and recreational sports mixed with a good low calorie diet you don't cheat on and the weight takes it self off with little effort. I promise you that.

I guarantee I am educated on weight loss. The best way to lose weight is to not eat and run. Your body can't run on fumes 24/7. It may not be ideal to run on 0 food, but I will make you lose weight. First the body goes into the fat cells ( shrinking the cells, you can't get rid of them )and burns the muscle down if no fat available.

Workouts are what you want out of them. I merely provided what I see could help the OP, which is to lose weight. If running doesn't build muscle, I don't know what does. Running a marathon requires a lot of work and it burns my legs after as well - I don't even run the whole thing. Getting what the OP wants out of is the best answer.
OP, I suggest standing for long periods of time POST workout. You'll build endurance and stamina by doing this. It might hurt, but you'll be in great shape if you're looking for long term results.
Muscle gaining requires getting the most lift in a short amount of time, not multiple reps, that's more aerobic/calorie burn.

You just contradicted the #@#@#@#@ out of yourself.

Some real pieces of advice:

First off, don't over-do it at the steak house. It's so easy to feel like you've earned it by putting in the work during the rest of the week, but it's just as easy to undo all the work you've done in one feast (in some cases you could even move backwards)

Second, you should definitely be weight training. Doing so will help you hold onto the muscle you've built simply by being overweight (having to carry around all that weight 24/7). Also, muscle burns more calories than fat so the more you have, the more you can eat and still lose weight.

Next, if you really like the eat at night there's no reason you have to stop. The time you eat your calories is unimportant. Something that might work for you is intermittent fasting (essentially skipping breakfast), there are no magic effects, but if you're eating 2000 calories in 2 meals as opposed to 2000 calories in 3 meals + snacks you'll get to enjoy much larger portions.

The last piece of advice would be to just be honest with yourself. You didn't burn off a 1500 calorie burger + fries walking around the block, you didn't gain weight because you built muscle and "muscle weighs more than fat", you aren't gaining weight eating 800 calories a day (you're miscounting intentionally or not).

Just do something that's proven to work (no fad diets/slimming belts) and stick to it, you'll reach your goals before you know it.

You had some fairly good advice there, but this is just flat out wrong. You don't gain weight from lifting, you gain weight from eating.

Your body can't build muscle out of nothing. You can lift weights for hours a day but you won't gain any weight if you aren't eating more calories than your burn.

Just because someone's intentions are good doesn't mean their advice is. There's nothing positive about someone working hard and getting no results because they followed some bad advice.

Come to a crossfit gym and check out an assault bike. Those things are brutal. We do workouts where you have to meet calorie marks. There is a guy who can crank out 60 calories in 60 seconds. It's a love hate relationship.

Keep up the good work.

I'm gonna use you as a motivator to keep going.

yes, that is completely true. i was mixing my words.
i believed OP was looking for advice on how to lose weight. you don't lose muscle easily... it's lost after all of your fat cells have nothing stored left to give off (energy wise) and that requires the OP to be down massive amounts of weight. if you're looking to build muscle i'd advise you to eat carbs and protein. chocolate milk does the job perfectly.
the best and most effectively gain muscle is to eat just carbs/protein and then not worry about gaining the muscle. then to lose the fat, do cardio; rinse and repeat.
