That's good!

I hope I have time to get back into and hopefully get my first Jr. Auto this upcoming year.

Otherwise grab some nice 90's inserts.

Hope to be posting here a lot!

Hello everyone, my name is Steve. I'm new to this forum, but I have been a big Griffey fan ever since I can remember. I live in Canada, so I'm expected to be a big hockey fan Right? But I fell in love with baseball and here we are.

I have collected Griffey for many years, many of those in my teens I wasn't able to afford very much but that's where the collection started. I've been able to grow it decently for the last several years to where there's a decent number of higher end cards. Btw... I'm a 90's card guy, I like to remember him in his amazing Mariners years.

I have a question for you guys though. About 15 years ago I picked up a card off Ebay ( when Ebay was really in it's infancy ). I knew it was rare and I got a great price on it.

It's the 1999 Skybox Premium Star Rubies 19 of 50

I have never seen another one on Ebay. Are they really that scarce? I've talked with several high end collectors and they all say the same thing. "No, I've never had the pleasure of owning one"

So, what is the value on this card? I'm in no market to sell, I'm just curious.

Thanks all,

Steve

First of all welcome to the forum and glad to hear from another Griffey collector! As for your card I'm not very familiar with his 90s cards as I am into his 2000 and newer autos and game used cards so couldn't really tell you what its worth. A couple other Griffey guys on this forum who are into his 90s cards Magicpapa and Joeypeapod may be able to help you. Good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome,

Don't get me wrong, I'll still collect some of the 2000's and up, but it's got to be a good deal and a nice card. For instance, 2012 Panini Prism Prism Refractor Auto 07/25 SGC 98.

I never had much success with packs though, best I ever got was a 1997 Donruss Limited Fabric of the game superstar material At the time the card was $100 and being a kid I was very excited. Immediately put it in a screw down case an it's still one of my favorites.

No problem! I've always enjoyed Griffeys game used cards and that's what my collection is mainly focused on. I love this hobby as you have the freedom to collect whatever kinds of cards you enjoy the most being game used autos inserts etc. If you get a chance check out my Griffey PC on photo bucket which is my more expensive cards and let me know what you think?

What other online circle do you all use to keep an eye on and track down the rarer Griffey cards?

As in, besides Ebay, Blowout, and FCB, are there facebook groups out there or other online things to subscribe to that people will make the rarer finds available?

Larger cards shows when available of course being another option.

I don't know of any but certainly would be interested in one if it existed?

It's a secret society all we ask is trust lol. There is a Griffey FB group I can get you in but otherwise nobody willingly is going to give you leads to rare stuff. All the rare finds I've ever had are just from digging around. Knowing certain things about Griffey , Ebay will def be the greatest way to find stuff. I'll give you one vague tip, it's knowing pricing and history on cards.

Ha thanks, would love to join it. Would give me a reason to use my facebook account that has been sitting dormant for the better part of this decade!

And yea I kind of figured that would be the case. In my head I thought maybe at least there was a group that on rare occasion you might see a:

"Hey I unfortunately need to sell some of my collection, but before I put it on Ebay, I would prefer that it go into the hands of a true Griffey collector as long as it is at a reasonable price I would get on Ebay"

Will shoot you a PM!

Welcome, Steve!

90's Griffey collector myself with a similar collecting background as you - started in my teens, didn't have much $ to buy the inserts I still love today back when they first came out but have been able to now. Good to have you on the boards.

That '99 Rubies /50 is a stunner and very rare card from that era. I think it could command $750 on the market and go for higher depending on condition since that set was condition sensitive.
