When are people going to learn not to drink/use drugs and drive? Such a sad, preventable situation.

It's only a matter of time before MLB establishes a mandatory education program. Players from other countries didn't necessarily grow up with all of the education and awareness campaigns against drunk driving or substance abuse that are offered in the U.S.

Very tragic news. From what I read on MLBTR, this was a separate crash from the one that killed Andy Marte.

Andy Marte's last MLB game was 8/6/14 w/ Arizona, against KC. Royals starting pitcher that day? Yordano Ventura. Both gone too soon. RIP.

It appears that alcohol was involved

Same day, separate sole death accidents of #MLB players @YordanoVentura & Andy Marte, similar circumstance; both said to be under influence.

Incredibly sad, but even sadder that the same mistake is happening over and over. Especially to Yordano who was one of the most emotional players after the Taveras incident.

Definitely still sad, but I struggle with cases like this where news comes out they were drinking and driving or something like that. Make bad decisions like that, what do you expect? It's a tough situation for me to deal with

While that's true and all, it's a different culture. Seems like it's the norm for people to go out drinking and driving and I'm not sure but maybe there aren't laws against it either. There was a time in our country where there weren't laws against drinking and driving as well.

As the post above, I have a tough time with situations like this. "Lack of education" definitely can't be used this time since he knew damn well what happened with Oscar Taveras. He knew the risks and took them anyways.

It's just sad. MLB needs to do better, clearly different cultures look at drinking and driving differently. These young players from other countries don't have access to the same campaigns and information growing up. It wasn't that long ago where drinking and driving was accepted in the U.S. MLB and the players union need to get its players up to speed with regards to the issue.

It's not the norm for people to drink and drive there but I am sure that the police look the other way when it comes to MLB players or prospects. There are laws against it in DR, in the U.S. its been a law since 1910.

Yup. I laugh at how dumb I was in my early 20s. All males evolve this way.

Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it's enforced. It's been illegal in the U.S. for a long time but officers used to let people go except in extreme cases and certainly weren't vigilantly looking for offenders. The culture is absolutely different.
