It's hard not to want to just unsubscribe from all news. RIP. Always sad when a parent has to bury a child.

One of my favorite players, he brought a lot to the mound that translated into championships. Gone too soon.

As the post above, I have a tough time with situations like this. "Lack of education" definitely can't be used this time since he knew damn well what happened with Oscar Taveras. He knew the risks and took them anyways.
What would you have had him do exactly? Serious question. He can influence the people around him, how do you know he's not changing the culture where he can. Is he going to go up to Yordano and take away his keys?

I think the MLB needs to start hiring full time drivers for some of these young athletes. I wish there was something in place to help these young guys that come into a bunch of money. RIP.

He could have done one of the following (not an all-inclusive list):

1. Asked him not to drive
2. Reminded him about Oscar Taveras
3. Try to convince his friends to prevent him from driving
4. Called him a taxi
5. Called the police
6. Ask a bouncer or other club worker for assistance
7. Etc.

What did he do instead?

1. Post about what he saw on Twitter

MLB hires drivers?

That's a lot of drivers

Also why would it be responsibility of MLB?

He might have been insulted if you mention Oscar T and taken it the wrong way

It's possible, but I guess we'll never know.

I'm just talking about young Dominican athletes signed to MLB contracts, maybe a program that pays for their friends to drive them places. Contract stipulations that restrict them from buying supercars. Education is probably most important but something has to change.

There's something surreal about these guys like Taveras, Fernandez and Ventura dying. Who would've thought. RIP.

My buddy who is Dominican born and visits often tells me the roads are terrible. Many are windy with no signage. True it can happen anywhere but the conditions are generally worse there.

Terrible news for Royals and MLB fans, yet another young player snuffed out due to a poor decision. May his family and teammates be able to gather any solace they can at this time.

At 25 or 26 these guys can hire their own drivers.

Nobody on here had a mixture of all three.

As already mentioned, MLB needs to force players to take a mandatory education course.
A little bit different, but I learned a while ago that the Mets have a cause in each player's contract that if a player gets into a car accident and he gets hurt because he wasn't wearing a seat-belt, the can void the contract. Happened after their top prospect Brian Cole died in a crash in 2001.

Honestly hasn't fully hit me yet. Guys like JoFer and Yordano seemed immortal, so full of life. Rest in Paradise.

The NFL does something very similar. It's not a hire driver per say, but they will reimburse all driver fees whether it be a taxi, Uber, Limo etc. The NFL will take care of it.

He & Jose Fernandez had great stuff. Will be missed. Probably 2017 All-Star game @ Marlins will Honor Jose Fernandez & Ventura in some way. RIP

I've also been to 2 different golf factories in the country as well which are far from tourist areas.
The DR is far from a war zone. Overall a very nice country which is quite safe for travel whether
business or pleasure.

What will MLB do about this? This is just crazy. I don't think I've ever heard of so much young talent dying in such a short time. It's sad.

Geez, this is really sad. I know most didn't like his attitude, but like Jose, I thought his personality and emotion were great for the game.

Hopefully Manfred will realize that this is a bigger problem than smoking a joint

My sister lived in the DR for a few years, she would frequently tell me how dangerous driving was there.
