Default Removing autograph stickers from cards

There is currently up for sale a pretty rare card that I would not mind grabbing but the auto is just terrible and running off the sticker in about 4 different spots. I am contemplating removing buying it and attempting to replace the sticker auto on the card, does anything have any experience doing so?

PS it is a select foil surface card

So you're altering a card and making it a fake

I think Mouschi does this with his custom cards. I could be wrong, he's in the baseball section maybe PM him.

If it's for his personal collection I don't see the issue with doing this. He's taking a card that had a sticker auto on it and replacing it with a sticker auto that he prefers.

I guess I just don't see the problem if he's only doing it for himself. I get if he tries to grade it or sell it, but if he had just done it and stuck it on his shelf/in a box nobody would ever have known. It's not like he's trying to make it better to profit from it he just wants it to look better for himself or at least that's what I'm getting from his post. To me it's no different than people who make custom cards. It may not be yours or mine thing but if he's happy with it great for him.

Again as long as he never tries to pass it off as authentic and original I don't get the issue.

Making a pc card better for your liking shouldn't be a problem, as long as it stays his pc card. Who cares as long as it stays in his/her collection?

To me, there's good and bad in it.. yes, if ur never gonna sell it and it's a pc card you want to have a better auto then it kinda seems ok but at the same time.. ur gonna have to destroy one of that players auto cards in order to get a new sticker, that sucks for someone who may want that card. But hey, if you pay for em both, they're yours, do what you wish with em right... although, I would imagine it's mighty difficult to remove a sticker and place it on a new card and have it look original without messing up the sticker at all... they're mighty sticky.

Whether you are keeping the card for your PC or altering it to make it more attractive to prospective buyers, altering a card is never a good idea. There's a reason why card companies make stickers tamper proof.

What if he dies and his family pawns it off to someone who doesn't know?

I would think it would be very difficult to get the sticker Auto to stay flat and secured to it's new card. I imagine that it would quickly begin to become lose around the edges and roll back. Of course if it's tightly secured in a holder I guess that would keep it pressed against the card for appearance purposes.

If you accomplish this please post pictures on here.

Considering we're living in a hobby world where this exist:

And where players regularly have others sign their cards for them....

.....I think OP transferring a legit sticker auto to another legit sticker auto card is at least 98% acceptable and far from anything to raise a stink over, even as a buyer.

I do this quite often. I put them on my customs to make cards I want of players who don't have cards in the team uniform I want.

I have no issue with it if they are for personal use.

Card companies just need to start telling the players to keep their autographs within the borders of the stickers

as long as you take a sharpie and write "altered signature" on the back .... then I see no problem.... the problem is ( i understand its for his PC )that if the card ever gets sold. Don't say it never will .... people out grow hobbies and need to sell for various reasons and I highly doubt the card will be buried with him.

Why would OP need to do this?

Let's get into the reality of cardboard:
- A card and a sticker auto are two separate items.
- OP owns a card. OP owns a sticker auto. They are glued together.
- The sticker certifies the autograph. The card certifies that a certified sticker is placed on the front.
- If OP takes a different sticker auto certified by the same company and transfers it to card, everything is still exactly as certified as before.

Put another way:

I take my wife to a Fancy Steakhouse (TM). I order a Fancy Steakhouse steak with Fancy Steakhouse mashed potatoes. She orders a Fancy Steakhouse steak with a Fancy Steakhouse salad. When the steaks arrive, she sees that her steak is not cooked the way she likes it and I agree to swap steaks with her. Now, we are both sitting with Fancy Steakhouse steaks and sides in front of us. Nothing has changed regarding the Fancy Steakhouse-certified quality of the food in front of us. If I get sick eating the steak that was originally served to her, Fancy Steakhouse is still liable.

Do what you want OP. As long as the cards aren't damaged and the stickers match, you've got just as legitimate a card as one freshly pulled from a pack.

This would be you getting a steak and her getting a hamburger and swapping. Putting a good sticker on a card alters the card and the value. This "pretty rare card" as the OP states is more valuable with a full auto on it. You're not swapping good for good, you're swapping crappy for good.

This is what so many collectors fail to realize: Your sticker auto card is not a singular item.

As long as the certification is valid (a sticker auto from the same company), OP is good.

EDIT: My stance is actually a big reason why I avoid stickers at all cost. The player never held the card. He did not sign the card, he signed a sticker and someone else stuck it on the card. That's why it's so easy to separate the two.

Doesn't matter. The card was put together and became one card. It has been changed from it's original state. Once you change anything on the card it's altered. Each part of the card being certified has nothing to do with it being changed from it original state. With people constantly selling fakes and altering patches these days I would think people would want to avoid tampering with a card even for the pc. I understand when someone takes an auto and puts it on a card that wasn't made by the company. That is a different thing. I still think when a custom card is made it needs to be noted on the card itself. If he is going to alter the card he should make a note on the card. These cards leave a persons pc all the time.

What are you talking about? Haha, the sticker auto and the card is 1 card, they are not separate. Just like switching out a patch is altering a card. I hope you're not doing this and selling it to the public. That's sketchy as heck.

Cutting out crappy single color patches and replacing them with nice looking ones.

I was gonna say the same thing. Sketchy. Give the counterfeiters a few more tips.

Agreed. The entire point of an autographed card is that you are holding something the player at least held and signed.
