Weird trend I've noticed - nameplates not matching

On a fairly frequent basis I find nameplates that just don't make any sense to me. I've attached a few examples for discussion. Am I crazy, or is there something I'm not seeing here?

Cody Kessler NT - looks like an "EV" or "EW" - how does that fit into his last name?
Eze Select - looks like a "K"
Tyler Boyd Immaculate - "E"
Corey Coleman Select - both look like "K"'s
Michaal Thomas Select - looks like a "B"
Leonte Carroo Select - looks like a "K"

It's bothered me so much I had to make a thread about it. What am I missing here? Appreciate the discussion.

Always bothered me to. Like you pull a letterman and it's not even a letter in their name.

Believe Thomas is an R.

They wear a jersey saying Rookie usually and one with their name on it as well.

The Jerseys they wear all say ROOKIE on the name plate at the premiere and they all use numbers 00 or 88 so they can make the most patches. They only use their real name plates in high end products like NT

OK, that makes sense - but then how do you explain the NT Kessler? Doesn't appear to say KESSLER or ROOKIE

The "Rookie" nameplate thing for Select bugs me. If you're going to call it "Nameplate" it should be a part of their name, not their experience in the league.

I love the design of the card, but that part gets to me.

To me it's all a matter of expectations. If you are expecting it to be game used, then you'll be disappointed. If you expect them to be "event worn" and not really be their jerseys, then you pay less for them accordingly and can still enjoy having them in your collection. Or, if you don't like them, you just don't have to collect them. One man's garbage is another man's treasure.

^^ This......its lame by Panini's part. Event used with generic number and "Rookie" name on the back. I can understand the number thing because some players may opt for a different number then they wore in college.....but to use jersey at the event without the name on the back of the jersey is just stupid.

Not every rookie wore a new jersey every game. One of the guys we PC in his Rookie Season had 3 jerseys and 1 went to a team auction and 2 went to the player himself.

It would cost Panini big bucks to cut up some players game worn jerseys. Brady's regular season jerseys typically sell 50k+. His super bowl jersey is valued at over 500k.

The sticker auto NT RPAs from non-Rookie Premiere players have occasionally contained game-used materials. Based on eBay photos (which aren't always informative, since very few people provide a photo of the back of the card), here's what I was able to confirm so far for 2017 NT:

1 Jakeem Grant: unknown
2 Andy Janovich: unknown
3 Cody Core: game-worn
4 Tajae Sharpe: player-worn
5 Maliek Collins: unknown
6 Tyreek Hill: player-worn
8 Adolphus Washington: game-worn
