Default Is 2017 Bowman Jumbo's at $175 worth it?

I'm not a "flipper"; mainly a collector. Though, I'm curious if the Bowman jumbo is a good buy at $175? With that said, I want some value out of the box.

I normally don't rip much wax these days. I understand you can get "worked" on ripping modern wax. Though, I'm just wanting to know is there any value in ripping a box at $175 or will I just pull 3 $5.00 auto's and that's it?

Lastly, will this product drop in price? Should I wait to rip a box? It seems baseball is really hot right now. What do you guys think?

There plenty of boxes out there where you won't come close to $175 back.

There plenty of boxes where you will. I got 4 boxes where I may make $175 back on one, but less than half that on the other 3.

It's all about luck.

Best advice: wait a little bit and buy singles. If you really need to scratch the itch, then $175 is a pretty good price. Conventions are charging $210 and getting the prices.

Watch a case break or two online. Houdini has some going tonight.

Thank you for all the fast replies. I completely understand it's all about luck. I was just curious in "value" in these boxes. Again, I'm mainly a "HoF rookie" collector. Though, I do buy a few boxes a year just for fun. I mainly only buy Heritage or some value boxes that drop in price.

I also don't know much about the current "hot" prospect/rookies. I'm curious how good are this years prospects?

I did leave a little detail out of my original post; I went to a show today and bought a jumbo box at $175.00. I just don't buy much modern and I'm now debating do I just sell the box on the bay? I'm going to let you guys decide, should I rip it or sell it and pre-order some Topps chrome/Bowman chrome instead? Any of the products I do decide to open, I keep all the cards, unless I pull some crazy 1 of 1.

Well, I paid 175.00 this year for one jumbo box as well (from my local card shop) - I buy a box of Bowman every year and I didn't want to skip this year just because the prices have gone up - I am not a flipper either, and I keep every card I pull.

My best card was a Maitan auto - which is one of the better ones to get. I've seen some duds get opened on this forum and I've seen some fantastic hits. If I were you, I would open it but, again, I'm not a flipper and I just enjoy the fun of it. But, of course in the end, it's up to you - good luck in whatever you decide!

Thanks guys for the helpful tips. Again, it was a total impulse buy at the price. What the hell, I'll just open it. A little fun won't hurt. Better than sticking $200 in a slot machine at a casino. haha

I'll report back.

Ouch. Yeah, like I said I don't buy much modern but thought $175 was a good deal...

I honestly was seeking advice on dumping the box and not opening it. I'm only 4 packs in...got my first auto. Again, I don't know any of the prospects. I see my first auto is a Yankee. I look on back to see where he is drafted...1st round 18th pick. I know nothing about this guy but checked the bay...not bad! This makes it so much fun not knowing who's a hot prospect.

On another note, I would have posted this in the break section but, I really was seeking advice.

1st auto down.

I just got my 2nd auto. I see it's a Cub and I've heard a little about this guy via the forums. #ed 150 blue autograph of Eloy Jimenez. Just checked the bay $380-400! Wow! I'm very thankful to the guys who said to just open it! If I could buy you a beer right now, I would!

That's the best part of it! Way better than throwing $200 in a slot machine.

Again, I'm a long time collector but mainly only buy HoF rookies. Hey, I do know all the current football draft picks!

Last auto, Atlanta braves Ronald Acuna. I also pulled a base blue refractor of Rafael Devers. Never heard of either guy.

Who needs to rip a cases of modern. Just buy a couple boxes a year and have fun with it!

PS- I do know my Brewers prospects

I usually do my friend. I talked myself into the box, saying; "at least you'll have something". I'm definatley not a big box breaker as I indicated.

EDIT: On a side note, I did hit 13.5k at the casino 2 months ago, that was way more fun!

as per cardpedia
Description

2017 Bowman is a 100-card set, supplemented by a 150-card Prospects "insert" set, to be released April 26th. Each Hobby box will come with one autograph, while hobby-exclusive Jumbo boxes will yield three.

It should be noted that while Topps is billing 2017 Bowman as the "70th Anniversary," it is actually the 69th as the first Bowman set was released in 1948.
Distribution

Hobby: 24 packs per box, ten cards per pack. 12 boxes per case
Jumbo: 12 packs per box, 32 cards per pack. Eight boxes per case

This thread seems kind of fishy, a HOF vintage guy busting Bowman.

Sure. I mean, it's an expensive lottery ticket. Upside is high, but you're not guaranteed anything.

I got one locally for $180 plus tax....came to $195

$175 seems decent nowadays and even better that you pulled some sellable eBay cards
