My folks are super religious, so no horror movies as a kid. Yet I remember one Saturday afternoon I was left home alone and happen to find Return Of The Living Dead on Basic Cable. I remember half way through the movie going outside and the neighborhood looked like a ghost town. No one insight...LoL...Miss them days.

The 80's seem to have some of the best movie covers/posters of all time. Especially in the horror genre...including The Gate.

PS. I got my digital copy through Amazon.

i think playing the Friday the 13th game is resurrecting my interest to watch these again.

i don't own any (because, truthfully, they weren't my favorite series growing up), so if anybody knows where they are online get at me!

Fair warning, they do NOT hold up well! I watched the entire series a few months ago and was pretty bored through most of it.

well i imagine they hold up about as well as the original nightmare on elm street 5 films, and I watched those before i left for college in a conquer my fear thing (saw them as a young kid and they scared the pants off of me). Those weren't great upon further viewing.

i just want to see these again now that I'm into this game, considering the series was never really my go-to for horror.

Don't really consider this a Horror movie, yet it does have its moments. Does anyone remember - The Forgotten - ?

Yeah the Nightmare Series doesn't hold up well either but at least they're fun with all the weird death scenes and Robert Englund just being awesome! I actually still really enjoy New Nightmare just because the concept is such a great idea (horrible ending though).

^^^^ Hey it's the guy off the tv show "This Is Us"......I'll have to check that one out.

I did go see 47 Meters Down (speaking of people in the tv show "This Is Us") about a week ago just to get my horror fix. Not bad, good mindless entertainment. I enjoyed The Shallows more but this wasn't bad.

Looks like "A Ghost Story" opened this weekend, but I can't find any places showing it. Is it one of those "only in NYC and LA" type indie films?

Wife and I loved that movie.

Fav zombie movie is still Dance of the Dead, but Zombeaver is a great night-in with pizza movie.

I couldn't find it playing anywhere near me either.

Netflix just added The Void so I'll be getting my horror fox with that.

Ok, The Void:

If you drop your expectations (or increase your beer consumption), it's great.

The atmosphere and practical effects are phenomenal and really nail the time period they're going for.

The plot and the final few minutes get a little scrambled and the film never comes together in a completely coherent way. This movie could have been a classic and hidden gem, but instead it's just a really really fun movie to experience. Don't be afraid to get up and go to the bathroom or go to the kitchen to grab some food or to glance at your phone. It might even be better if you're slightly distracted because it will allow you to gloss over the plot gaps and focus on the mood and the blood even more.

Dance of the Dead was a great one.

nice thing about reZort is they explained their own zombie "rules" without being hamfisted or obvious.

so i got through two more netflix things.

Condemned (not to be confused with the actually decent Stone Cold Steve Austin movie), is absolutely trash.

XX is not all that great as far as anthologies go. The first vignette titled "The Box" was the best of the bunch. the rest were meh.

Completely agree with XX. I had high hopes for this one for some reason. Didn't really care for any of them.

I watched XX a couple weekends ago and hated it. There's an anthology on Netflix called Tales of Halloween that's pretty decent. Liked it much more than expected.

so i've been re-watching some older horror movies that I watched as a kid and remembered scaring me, and this got me to thinking: what were the scenes from your childhood that really screwed you up for a while?

1. The Blob remake- the sink scene. Just seeing that dude get sucked down the clogged sink made me refused to stick my hand in any clogged drain again. Also, the payphone scene AND the sewer scenes really got me too. This movie was full of scary #@#@#@#@ to a kid. Also, I was afraid to touch boobs for a long time because of this haha. And movie theaters weren't my favorite places after this. basically, this movie really freaked me out because it wasn't a monster you could just fight.

2. Nightmare on Elm Street Johnny Depp's bed scene. I really didn't sleep in my bed for weeks.

3. there was a random X-Files episode with this monster that honestly wasn't all that scary, except that it had this one scene of the monster basically spying on somebody through a vent in their house, and my house at the time had a very similar vent right next to the toilet. Every time at night when I peed I would be off to the side to avoid being near the vent. Also creepy things from that series that messed me up a bit as a kid was the guy that could hypnotize you with his words, Toombs, and that one episode in the arctic I think where there was a fungus that just shot out of your chest after a while.

4. The Jay Baruchel (yes, it was him as a kid) pool monster episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark. Scared me shitless. One of the other episodes that you could put on special glasses and see the "shadow people" kind of creeped me out too. That episode wasn't scary, but the idea that there were "people" you couldn't see kind of messed me up as a kid.

5. Night of the Comet had a few, but i saw that one really young. The first "zombie" kill of MJ Fox's brother at the theater scared me (also, i remember my dad having a friend that had a very similar mask and he scared me with it on more than one occasion. The idea of basically being turned into dust by a meteor wasn't fun.

6. Return of the living Dead- while i knew it was ridiculous, but still scared me because the zoms were smart and fast. But mainly the tar zombie scared the #@#@#@#@ out of me.

7. Jaws, for obvious reasons made me hate the ocean. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea's giant squid attack helped in that regard.

8. The original Dawn of the Dead had one moment that really shocked me, and that was when they were running through one of the department stores, and the one zombie acting like a mannequin jumped them. Just really freaked me out. I was REALLY young when I caught that one though.

9. Body Snatchers 93 remake scene where the step mom got changed was creepy, and the bath scene scared me too.

10. the Childs Play series made dolls no bueno.

11. While I'm sure there were Tales From the Crypt, Outer Limits, and Twilight Zone episodes that haunted me, Creepshow 2's pond scene really did a number on me (hence, again, why i'm not much of a fan of any water that isn't a pool). Just being stuck on a raft while a cannibalistic oil slick eats your friends is not a fun thing to think about.

12. While Poltergeist is indeed a scary movie, I don't think anything scared me quite like the old man that came to the door.

13. Zombi 2 (titled as such to be a "sequel" to Night of the Living Dead) was creepy, but the one death that really got me was the wife getting her head pulled into the broken door with a splinter going into her eye. ugh.

those are the only ones I can really think of seeing when i was a young kid that really scared me. i don't know what specific movie really got me afraid of the dark, but i think every kid would speed up the basement stairs once you turned the lights off...

It's funny, I know The Thing was scary, but i don't think there was any one thing in that movie that really put me off. I have no idea why that one didn't scare me.
