Yea this is kind of a no brainer. A lot of power at the position and also hit for avg. and was a multi-time AS with a ring.

i think there are only about 5-6 guys currently playing that are safer bets to eventually end up in HOF...and that is counting 3 all timers in pujols/ichiro/miggy who are kinda winding down to differing degrees...i guess right now you have those three...then kershaw, beltre and once he hits 10yrs trout...i cant think of anyone else currently that projects as a safer bet for HOF...

here are his standings among 2b as of right now....

Runs- 1112...27th all time among 2B
Hits- 2297...17th all time among 2B
Doubles- 493...7th all time among 2B
HR- 295...3rd all time among 2B---Kent record at 377 he is prob a lock to pass
RBI- 1146...11th all time among 2B
BA- .305...top 15 or so...coup guys who barely have at bats listed
SLG- .497...3rd all time among 2B behind Kent(.500) and Hornsby(.577)
OPS- 8th...but like .04 away from 5th spot...so top 10 safe bet...
WAR- 64.3...16th all time among 2B...5th place is around 80...so he could get up around that range...

2x GG
5x SS(2nd most ever by 2B)
8x AS
6 top 10 MVP finishes...4 in the top 5 (no wins)
1x AS MVP
1 Ring-bad postseason numbers though so that wont really be a talking point.

i know this isnt a "stat" or anything...but from 07-16 he only missed 26 games...that is impressive and important knowing you could plug an elite player in the middle of your lineup every day...played 156+ 10str yrs...

he is 33...has SIX years left on his current contract...isnt really slowing down as of now...i know that can come at any time...

but his counting stats most likely will end up having him as probably the 2nd best offensive 2B ever is my guess, seems like he could make a run to get around top 3 in Runs scored...top 3 in hits, top 3 in doubles, 1st in homers and rbi among 2B...
He is behind Kent in everything but Average and WAR. I wouldn't say he is on now. I do expect him to continue to play at a high level and make the Hof. As you said, he is only 33 and should have a lot of production left. If he winds up where you project him, he will be a 1st ballot Hofer.

yea he is behind him but kent had 4 more years and the gaps arent that wide really...and cano started 2yrs younger...so i think cano ends up blasting past him in most numbers...

Runs...Kent by about 200...cano should pass him by like end 2019
Hits...Kent by 160 only...will pass him by this time next year and could end up almost 1000 ahead really...
Doubles...Kent by about 60...will pass him by mid 2019...and end up quite a bit ahead...
HRs...Kent by 80...Cano will pass him barring health...2-3 yrs...could put a decent gap by time he retires...and will hold record
RBIs...Kent by about 375(is 3rd all time)...cano should also end up with this record
Slashlines...pretty similar currently..id say they end up pretty similar as well...

Awards:
Kent: 5x AS, 4x SS, 1x MVP(big bump for him)...0x GG....0x Rings(but better in postseason)

Cano: 8x AS, 5x SS, 0x MVP...2x GG, 1x Ring

WAR- Kent ended at 55.2(19th among 2B)....Cano at 64.3 and counting...so that gap is gonna end being huge!...prob end up with 50% more WAR (around 80)

Cano's also ten times the defender.

He'd have to hit .220 for the rest of his career to not get in. Even then, he'd probably get in.

Fun player to watch in NY. Now the Yankees have a new guy to get pissed at about jogging to first.. Gary Sanchez!

I thought he had a good shot, but didn't realize what #s he had so far. better than I thought. As long as he can be above 250 the next 4 years, I think hes 90% in. Might not be first ballot, but should get in.

Cano should be in the HOF for just his swing alone.

Wasn't better than Utley, but will have a longer career with better counting stats. I think he will get in, but not if he retired right now.

Utley had like 5 straight 7+ WAR years Cano only had 1... Ever.

Pedroia is pretty comparable with 500 less games played, more gold gloves, MVP, ROY...

Wow, I'm surprised the people who think all modern players suck and no one should ever get in the Hall of Fame again aren't in this thread yet.

i mean not really though...and the 500 less games is mostly due to injury...they both started at 22...pedroia is 33...cano 34...so 1 year more...DP has couple seasons under 100g played...some others in the 130s-140s...

200 less runs
500 less hits
100+ less doubles
less than half the homers
450 less rbi's

4x AS
1x MVP...only received votes in 2 other seasons though!
3x GG
1x SS
2x rings...not very good in postseason either...

Pedroia is good...but i wouldnt say he is too comparable/close really...

using fWAR paints quite a diff picture than bWAR...so ill paint the bWAR picture...

Utley did have 5 straight 7+WAR seasons under bWAR as well...

he also had only ONE more season ever over 4.0WAR....he has played for 15 seasons and has 64.7WAR

Cano fWAR is crazy undervalued...bWAR shows a diff picture...he has played 13 seasons and is basically tied with 64.3WAR

he has 4 seasons over 7WAR...werent all in a row either...meaning a bigger window of elite production....
he also has 2 seasons above 6WAR
he also has a season above 5WAR and another at 4.5

so 8 of Cano's 12 full seasons were 4.5 or higher...while utley literally had his best 6 yrs in a row and never again had a season even above 4.0!...so only 6 of his 15 seasons were over 4WAR...and the last 7 straight all under 4...

so yea in the WAR department im taking cano all day long....utley gave you a nice short window of great play...cano has spread his greatness over a decade plus already...he had 7.3WAR last year at age 33...utley was already down in the 3WAR range and never went back up...

as for counting stats...cano already is way ahead at everything...

Utley has been around longer but the guy only played 150+ games 4x in his whole career...Cano avg like 159 for the last 10 yrs...that stuff counts...
