The real issue is they don't rip the rip card during the break and they don't announce the result of the rip.

Wow. That is some major BS.

I opened a box last night and did not find one autograph. 3 relics. 2 of the 3 baseball players and the 3rd was a marathon juggler relic. I think it will take a while for these cards to appreciate in value.

It may take several generations of passing down these cards but some day I truly hope that people will value even the base cards as much as we see base from the 1950s cost.

Any thoughts on this? Anybody else see potential down the road?

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
1. To automatically rip a RIP card. There are plenty of very valuable rip cards UNRIPPED.
2. To not rip the card on camera!
3. How does the mini NOT go to the person who had the RIP card!?!?!?

I can't believe people would break with this guy.

My 2nd case arrived today. I was able to rip two boxes. Pulled a Miguel Cabrera rip /60 in box one. Box two netted a Robert Gsellman mini framed auto and a Chad Pinder mini Brooklyn back 17/25. Through 14 boxes I have not pulled a Judge mini.

I was advised in another thread that the rip was opened at the very end of the break. I obviously missed it, and couldn't go back to check during the break. My apologies.

Common to be without an auto. 5 or 6 autos per case seems to be the average.

Never know, the guy that bought those rips that were mentioned before overpaid like crazy. Also, the metal mini prices are hilarious. I had to give away my DeGrom the year that he was hot. A 2014 Jeter sold for $150 (granted probably low), but a 2015 Kershaw just auctioned for $50.

Just wanted to drop another reminder in the thread that I am looking for black border mini's and the retail gold border mini's, hopefully saving me typing the same thing in every box/case break thread

It's hard to imagine base cards being produced today ever rivaling cards from the 50's. But there are a few similarities, between now and then.

First off, base cards in the '50's were not seen as investments. So they were not taken care of and often thrown away. Base cards today, not all but most, are not seen as investments and are often pushed aside or literally thrown away as people search for hits. There have been threads on BO of people who have trouble giving the cards away today.

Secondly, the 50's had a wealth of talent in baseball and it is often referred to as the Golden Age. This obviously helps pricing. It is still too early to tell, but there are plenty of stars today that could be marketed as the next golden age 40-50 years from now.

One major advantage today's stars have is that all of their performances are being captured on video. I know Willie Mays is a great player; one of the best ever. I've seen his iconic catch a thousand times. However, I can't appreciate at the same level as someone who grew up watching him. In the future, people will not only know the stats of players before their time, but they will be able to see all of their iconic moments that created those stats. This could create a greater sense of appreciation for past stars.

The greatest unknown is how will the future feel about physical pieces of cardboard. You have to imagine most everything with be a digital image or a hologram 60 years from now. Will people like back on cards as antiquated and obsolete or will they be seen as real relics from a previous time in history? Either way could be a huge influence on card values.

I was hoping to pick up some retail today at my Target but no luck. My Target never ever gets new product, it's always 2-3 weeks after everyone else. I guess it does save me some money, but would be nice to rip some A&G packs.

Imagine if you had the Yankees and hit a Judge Rip card, breaker just tears it open.

Why not just sell the rip spot? If not, I think the card should go unripped to the team on the front.

Found 3 Blasters and 5 Value Packs at Westwood, MA Target tonight. I don't live around here, but am visiting family. They still have the regular hanger packs (I left all of those). Not sure which Target you check, but you might want to recheck...
