Default Finally had enough of my neighbor

We've lived in our house about 14 years. Our current neighbors on one side moved in maybe 8 years ago. We live on 1/2 acre lots so the houses are really close together on a cul-de-sac. They are from India and love Bollywood music. For those who are unfamiliar with it, Bollywood music is big into thumping base. They would play their music very loud with the base turned way up pretty much every weekend late into the night, sometimes until 4:00 am. At first my wife very politely would ask them to turn it down and they would. This went on for years. Eventually there was a night where it was crazy loud (our bedroom faces their house). My wife went over and they had a DJ in their garage until 3:00 am. The father, who is the big culprit in all this, came over and bitched at my wife. It's apparent that he's in charge there because his wife and daughters are always still very polite and apologetic.

Since then, his kids moved out and the loud music kinda died down, until recently. They had a four day festival for the son getting married which was non stop partying for four straight days. We didn't say a word because it was a big occasion. However, now the guy has been acting more like a jerk. Over the past few months he has told my youngest son to turn his radio down while he was shooting baskets during the middle of the day, he flew a drone over by my wife's head while she was reading out by the front yard, and he stared at my wife and said really loud " well, I better turn the music up" then went and blared his stereo.

Last night I woke up at 11:00 to crazy loud thumping music. My wife has a friend who is a police officer and she had asked him what to do. He said call 911, say it is a non emergency and start a record, so that's what I did. The police stopped by and the music went quiet. Our city has a noise ordinance that states 9:30 pm on weekdays and 10:30 on weekends. Now I'm waiting to see what this guy does next.

Who else has jerk neighbors?

What a helpful and classy remark.

This is a big reason I live where I live. I had an apartment where it was incredibly loud and noisy. Tons of children running up and down the hallways, people blaring their music, it sucked. The apartment I live in now is pretty much full of elderly people. I'm only 32 so I'm well below the average age here. I love it though. So quiet, so peaceful, no annoying neighbors. Plus, I get incredibly fast internet speeds since nobody here really uses it, lol.

If it were me, I would have been calling the police much earlier than you did especially if the guy started mouthing off to me. I pay my taxes which pay for the police so I don't feel bad about calling them for things like that given that it could escalate into something worse if I just keep going over there. Sounds like this guy is a real tool so hopefully the police keep him in check.

in a similar boat years ago, My wife and I have lived in our house for 9 years, When we first moved in, our next door neighbors were arian brotherhood... Whatever (different strokes for different folks) Never once had any issue with them... 2 years later, just before Obama was elected, the neighbor acted a fool and was taken away by fine uniformed gentlemen. so they ended up Moving out.

The Neighbors who replaced them.... I couldn't tell if there were actually 3 or 4 families living inside. Minis being from India, Sounded JUST like your current neighbors OP Habitual dispespect.... terrible 3 years of living beside them... Welp, they eventually got evicted and the house was foreclosed on....

Fast forward to 2 years ago. a AWESOME Couple who just retired bought the house to Gut and completely fix it up, Which they have. My wife and I had out first 6 months ago, and they have a grandson maybe 1 year older. They plan to Stay and now that we've now "locked down" the end of our street couldnt be happier.

Sucks when you cant get along with your neighbors, seems like you tried OP. Hope things get better for you. I have felt your pain

He gives off the impression that he runs the neighborhood.

You wouldn't even know we have anyone else living on the street because the rest of the families are so quiet.

I have no problems with noise generally. I live around a bunch of asians. They're into studying math and science textbooks. Very quiet hobbies. It's fantastic.

Previously, in our apartment, I had several run ins with some jackwad rednecks that partied EVERY weekend. They'd blast music and homoerotically wrestle each other after they'd get drunk. The biggest issue is when 2 220+ rednecks start body slamming each other at 3AM is the thuds they make when they hit the ground. It's especially disturbing when it's loud and hard enough to knock $h!t off the walls... I gave them 2 chances to fix the crap themselves. After that I just called the cops anytime they started pulling that crap.

I wish I had some helpful advice for you, but I'm coming up empty. I live in an apartment, and I purposely chose a high-end rental to price the Clampett's out of the equation.

Unfortunately, there are always going to be a-holes in this world. My parents own about 500 acres, so they are surrounded by dozens of neighbors. Some are great folks, some think my parents place is their personal playground, and some think it's fine to dump their crap over the fences on them. They've accepted the fact they're going to fight a battle with someone until they pass on.

My mom is our neighbor to the left of us. She has these awesome outdoor speakers. My only issue is she plays a lot of music with curse words and leaves it on all the time. I just randomly walk in her garage and turn it down.

Perhaps you could figure out what kind of stereo they have. Maybe you will get lucky and it will be on a wireless connection or Blu tooth. Mess with it from your house. Turn it down. Switch it to love jams.

My friend, My girlfriend is from England but her heritage is from India as both parents were born there but have been in England since the Queen had taken the Thrown.
Yes, The culture of Marriage is much different to those with Indian Heritage. It's not the festivities that as you have stated are the problem, it's realizing that we are all in this thing called life together. I would let him know that there are times more beneficial to play loud music without disturbing the neighborhood. I would also tell him that I have a friend in a band that sound proofed his basement to keep the noise from disturbing others. I could give you Hindi or Punjabi things to say but I don't want to create a firestorm between you and your neighbor.
As far as the drone, tell the idiot that it's beyond being a nuisance and I'm sure there are ordinances to flying anything over other people's property unless it's above a certain height.

Golf club or tennis racket for drone next time it flies over.

Make a big show of unloading a bunch of firearms and ammo into your garage.

Call cops at drop of a hat.

Invite them over to break a case of high end 2017 Poopnini Football - my guess is they'll never bug you again.

Perhaps this is a good time to pop for that new Harley with some loud-ass life-saving pipes. Nothing clears the mind like a nice brisk 6 a.m. ride.

I'm lucky, have pretty good neighbors. The house next door was caught up in some sort of ownership dispute for years and sat empty...no power or water...bunch of crackheads would gather there and deal in stolen stuff and do drugs...called the cops non stop on them any time i heard anyone over there and they eventually went away. One time they had a load of stolen pipes from a construction site and half the town police showed up guns drawn lol...it was wild...but they went away and a nice couple with a baby bought it and have been slowly fixing it up nice...very glad they got it and not another round of crackheads.

One of the neighbors has a grandson that visits who has a loud ass stereo he likes to use to announce to the entire neighborhood he's arrived...but he only shows up every few weeks or so...I hate that guy.

I have a noisy Indian guy living below me. The bass on his music is the culprit as well and I just figured it was that crappy EDM rave noise. He drives an obnoxious bright yellow V6 automatic mustang too, wish he knew how lame he was.

From India?

Fire up the grill in the front yard next time the wind is blowing his way and invite him over for brisket.

I had one. Very obnoxious, loud, and nosey gremlin looking lady across the street. I had a few uncalled for run ins with her over the years. It was tough because her boyfriend is one of the calmest and nicest guys I've ever met. His kids (now grown) are also quiet and shy. Luckily after her moving in with him about 6-8 years ago she wore even his patience out and had been on a short leash. A couple weeks ago she just drove a car they just got into a rail road sign down the road and next day she was gone. Peace at last. I live on a dead end road and have three houses boarding mine and now everything is great again like when I first moved in 12 years ago.

I have nice neighbors in a dead end street.

To left is a Hispanic family to the right is an Asian family. Across the street is a Samoan family. They probably think I'm the strange one, I rarely make eye contacts with them or say anything.
