For the people that have bought these so far, do you still recommend them? I currently pay $255/month for internet/cable/phone (phone isn't even connected) from Xfinity. Fios isn't available in my area, and I don't want to do a satellite dish. Looking at the options for cord-cutting, and it seems like for sports and live TV, this is the best bet?

I have the same question. I'm worried about not having access to a DVR or being able to pause live TV.

I don't think I could watch a baseball game without recording and then fast forwarding through the time b/w pitches.

Do these have some type of DVR attached or is it just streaming? Or do they work like apps within apple tv for example?

I've used the firestick for awhile now and it's really not a suitable replacement for LIVE tv, or Sports IMHO. It's really hit or miss with those, and sometimes you'll get stuck with some sketchy streams, or spend more time trying to find a working stream than it's worth. It's really good for most TV shows/movies (it has completely replaced my need to go to Red Box, and I've been able to watch TWD/GoT/etc.)

That being said, I cut cable several months ago and I have not missed it all. If you are paying $250+/month for cable/internet that is crazy. You should get local CBS/NBC/Fox with a basic antennae, so a lot of sports stuff you can still watch for free in HD through local broadcast. I also pay for MLB.tv which lets me watch my Marlins (it has blackout restrictions so this may not work if it's local baseball you like, or you'd have to mask your IP address to get around it).

Didn't mean to hijack the thread OP, just wanting to opine on a few questions I saw from personal experience.

Some of you might want to look into Directv Now. I'm saving about $80 a month with one of these firesticks along with Directv Now. There is no DVR right now but they are working on one but with the firestick you don't need a DVR.

Most people don't realize that you can get local channels for free through a HD antennae which carry most sports

Is Elysium back up yet? I switched to Covenant and it works beautifully. I even watched an old Humphrey Bogart movie from the 1940's in HD yesterday.

I believe it is, just watched Horrible Bosses the other day and it worked well.

Good to hear!

All PMs replied, will be around a little bit this weekend but not as much as usual, power keeps going out due to the last 3 days of storms. Should be back to normal soon though!

I need to update it but that option comes with more apps as well.

Will be out of town from the Aug 26th - Sept 8th, I'll be around to answer PMs but any purchases made after the 25th will ship on the 9th.

Good news is a big overdue update is coming to the thread on Wednesday!

Thanks!

Tomorrow when I get to my hotel I'm going to try and toss together a quick guide on how to find it.

Today will be the day of the update! Got a new computer that is lightning fast and I'm ready to update the thread

Just a few things, the update in complete detail will be done next week but a few bullet points:
-Only Option 2 and Option 3 Are available right now, working on a different option for option #1
-On options 2 + 3 the layout is much better and has a lot more to choose from, will add pics and a how-to video
-Newest option will be a Kindle Fire Tablet that has Kodi on it, essentially a nook w/ Kodi capabilities so you can take your watching on the go, available in blue, black, yellow, and red
-Getting closer to a video game Kodi option that will have the old school games on it, still working on it but should know for sure shortly
-All options come with a voice control on the remote

The main thread will have much more detail on this.
