Watch Hakeem vs Robinson in the playoffs when you get time. Robinson was a defensive POY level player and Hakeem made him look like he was standing still.

1A, 1B....but if I had to chose, I am taking the Big Fundamental.

That was one series and Hakeem was so good that year that D Rob was mentally broken.

I've also seen games where Robinson blocked Hakeem twice to win the game. It wasn't like Hakeem owned him every time.

It's good to see TD get some votes back.

It seems people remember the mid 90s Hakeem much better than the early 00s Duncan.

It's like Duncan was old and slow his entire career.

The dude could do everything Hakeem could and had the intangibles.

But there's not much in it. Hakeem missed the playoffs a lot and lost early often. TD had sustained success.

Defensive players get embarrassed often but without trying they wouldn't be defensive studs. Robinson bit on a lot. That's why they call them fakes

But back to Duncan and Hakeem

I watched both and to choose between the two is a good problem to have. It is a tough call.

First thought was Hakeem no doubt, mostly because I feel he was more rounded. Hakeem was an exceptional defender, don't really think of Duncan that way. BUT I had to go look at stats, maybe its closer than I thought ---

Guys I love Robinson, Duncan, and Hakeem. The guy said he hadn't got to watch Hakeem in his prime so I pointed him toward where Hakeem gets his all time peak great reputation from. I wasn't insulting anybody. I think the Spurs are one of the best 2-3 organizations in all of sports.

Also I picked Duncan.

I'd probably trade down if I had the #1 pick and get whoever was left and some cash considerations or a pick

Championships are a team accomplishment, saying Duncan's 5 > Hakeem's 2 is missing a ton of context.

As players they are nearly equal, with Hakeem's prime better than Duncan's but Duncan's longevity beating Hakeem's (but neither category was won by as large of a margin as many seem to think).

Duncan is a top 5 all time defender, Hakeem might be #1 though (yeah yeah, Bill Russell I know).

You take a prime Hakeem and switch him with Duncan on any of the 5 title teams Timmeh won, and I think Spurs would win all 5 (6 including the loss vs Heat)

You take Duncan and switch him with Hakeem on any of the 3 Rockets team that made the finals and I think they win 0.

Duncan and now KAT are the closest thing I've seen to Prime Olajuwon since Timmeh got drafted, but neither are quite "the dream" that beat out Ewing,The Admiral and Shaq en route to back to back finals.

Akeem the dream bless

Hakeem and it's not even close, didn't even have to think about it.

Does using "and it's not even close" exclude the need for the reason? Because it's close and using prime years as an attempt to widen the gap makes it more evident. Well at least more comparable than the usual vs that comes up

If you pick either player and say "it's not even close" that tells me you don't know enough about 1 of the players.

If you ask me who the better Offensive player is, I say Hakeem, who has higher PPG, RPG, FG %. But it's close.

If you ask me who the better Defensive player is, I say Hakeem, who has 1.0 block and 1.0 steal pg more, and .2 rebounds less. I don't think defense is that close, and Hakeem is in the convo for greatest ever.

I've got to give it to Hakeem.

I'll take Duncan. Without MJ, Olajuwon could have potentially more rings.....but Duncan literally was a perfectly built player.

Except that one game.....where he gets ejected....and he's on the bench.

It's tough, but I'll take Dream over Timmy, if roles would have been switched I can see Hakeem playing in a lesser role like Timmy did for those championship years when they won and be more of a dominant anchor down low but I can't see Duncan and Houston overcoming Those Ewing led Knicks or Shaq/Penny led Magic team ..

That Shaq/Penny team were newbies and wet the bed in the Finals. Almost like that Dwight led team with bright eyes and no focus. Hakeem had been there before. They were good but MJs absence/comeback opened a window that both the Magic and the Rockets took advantage of. So to imply that Duncan couldn't have anchored a team when he knocked off a Shaq/Kobe/Phil team seems like a reach
