eTopps is completely different.

When a player was used on a card... he was off limits the rest of the season. They'd offer up 2 rookies and 2 vets usually a week. They'd offer up a few SPs to 499 to keep you checking week to week. eTopps went on sale at like 1PM ET every Monday. Not every day during the season.

The "cards" were all virtual. They did print them but the in-hand cards were significantly less value.

eTopps just had a portfolio... you might have 250 cards... but it was all virtual.

No fad with this product. Topps Now® will be here to stay for the foreseeable future. Each season will have its own "valuable" cards collectors will go for during that season, and like any sets from the past, just a few of the cards will endure and increase in value incrementally long past their initial sales window.

Topps Now® is valuable as a historical document of that particular season. While I enjoy the possible Call Up being a big star someday, the history of the moment is the star of the show for me. Long live Topps Now®!!

No...not all vitural and my Trout eTopps Rookies in hand and the ones I still have in portfolio have all been printed and are available....as well as valuable. (Though not as much as back in 2001) They are in a warehouse in Delaware that Topps still has to pay for!

To this day I can still open my eTopps portfolio and list cards for sale or trade and they just shuffle around in a Delaware warehouse. I’ve a bunch in hand to and the Trout Rookie is just much better then any of his others...same with the 2000 Pujols. Problem wth eTopps is the same as we have with Now... Beckett doesn’t recognize e-cards of any sort as True Rookies. Time to retire Beckett as our end all be all source of liget cards if you ask me.

I still have a few etopps myself. Been trying to get a '01 Chipper since I missed it but I'm not dying to overpay.

Totally agree with everything you said. I have a complete base card set of Cubs cards from last year, and regardless of relative monetary values of cards in my collection, that set is one of the things I will always most cherish and will be least likely to sell, as it is both a nostalgia vehicle like any sports cards, but also, taken together, a novel form of "document" of the Cubs' magical WS season.

I think this line is such a cool idea for fans of any team, but if your team happens to win the WS, having most or all of the cards from that year is a really, really cool thing.

(Given how the Cubs are playing right now, I think another team's fans will be getting to complete the Topps Now storybook this year.)

I've decided to try to keep up with the Cubs base cards for the entire multi-year window where they have all of their young core players under contract. I figure that ten or twenty years after that period is over, it will be really cool to look back through all of those cards in sequence and relive it all.

Very cool product, though I do fear they will continue to milk it harder and harder and may risk ruining it a bit. But I hope it does remain vital and endure.

Chad

Tomorrow is gonna be a busy Topps Now day.
Yankees had a great comeback win, and Dodgers - Cubs still have a game coming up tonight.

Below guys should have a base card, and maybe auto relic for Judge or Sanchez.
-Sanchez
-Judge
-Headley?

The NOW product line will be around forever. That is my firm belief about this product. The problem people are going to run into is that when they want something really really old they are going to have to ask JoeJoeMay to goto his storage warehouse to retrieve a card and that could take a while.

One of the few times that I am just rooting for base cards. If there is an auto relic I won't be able to resist! Haha.

This is probably the only base relic I've seen of 1/1 that does not use logoman as the relic piece.
Strange.

Yankees base relic 1/1 - eBay listing

Same here. I also don't understand why they can't put the sticker towards the corner of the piece and not right in the middle...

That seller has quite the collection of 1/1's. You post here, dr2112? Impressive collection!

So what if a 1/1 goes unsold? Do they bring back during their holiday 50% off sale?

Wait, I thought the link I posted was for the Yankees Postseason clinch relic, but it is now changed to Gary Sanchez 1/1...
The strangeness continues...

(Yes, I'm quoting myself)

Well, the Frazier 1/1 should have been a $999 card. Topps got greedy and now it's a "hard-sell" card. People are passing on it and are saving their $$$$ for Judge tomorrow.

It will be made, and become a replacement card for high end redemption card that won't get made.

If ever! Had someone ask me about my 1/1 Hoskins already...even the wife laughed out loud...maybe during the estate sale! I too believe in the product love the story it puts out and think it’s the best way to follow the season...heck even if you just saved screenshots of the cards or did the Bunt cards. It’s pretty awesome.
