What an utter disappointment. I'm also tired of the same signer on different cards just to inflate the checklist.

I'll also throw my disappointment in the mix. My fault, I really hyped myself up for this set after the movie. Not that I'm disappointed we're getting Angela Bassett and Martin Freeman to sign, both huge names, but more that they didn't get any main characters from the movie to sign, I'd classify these two as more supporting roles.

I'm still excited for memorabilia hits, as the costumes in this movie were phenomenal, so I'm hoping for some really cool pieces.

How do you end up with so few signers when you have such a large cast to try and get?

Beside the majority of the main cast they missed on, they didn't even get Serkis or Whitaker who have signed for other releases ?

Seems a pretty poor effort.

Kind of glad I held off going in the second case break now...

The radio silence on this one seemed indicitive of the auto list. Usually there would be previews or some hype from UD. With Thor, at least we got the biggest name. This is pretty disappointing.

Garbage. Complete and utter garbage set.

No Letitia Wright. What?
No Jordan. No Boseman, no Duke, no Kaluuya, no Sterling Brown?

Why even make the set. Just don't bother if this is the crap that gets pulled out.

Complete hot garbage.

Can't believe no Letitia Wright.

This is absolutely awful, upper deck should have just cancelled this product instead of putting out such a joke, plus at this price.. inexcusable.

I am glad my distributor allowed me to cancel if the checklist was bad.

There's also no Nyong'o and no Gurira (yeah she's got Walking Dead stuff, but this is Okoye).

But yeah, Wright would have been a huge get. I'd say only Boseman and Jordan would be more popular hits than her.

The only way this disappointing checklist would make sense is if they're saving everything for Infinity War.

They really needed add something per case to make up lack of diversity of autos. Would it had been so tough to add a redemption for maybe a puzzle, multi panel, or the bigger type sketches. Might not be perfect, but adds fun and reason to want to buy boxes of this.

I don’t think there as much disappointment if something like this was added, or just make the boxes cost 80-90 out the door . Because in time, prolly pretty quick, the prices will be down to this. No one besides group breakers will want to open a case of this at 1200-1350 a case.

This is exactly why releasing this set is a terrible business move by UD. In the same week the biggest comic book movie in the history of forever is released in theaters, UD kills everyone’s hopes for a decent trading card release. I can’t understand why anyone would consider preordering Infinity War after seeing this kind of effort on the preceding product.

No surprise here. UD continues to milk the name of all these franchises while delivering nothing worthwhile. Hey UD rep, waiting for fresh excuses. Why should anyone purchase your products going forward?
If you can't get any of the main stars, do bother with the set. Stop wasting people's time and money. A Black Panther auto would have been one of the most sought after cards in Non Sports. Even a cut auto. Shame it didn't happen.

Or at least that the IP with respect. Black Panther made $1.3 billion dollars so far. It'll be in the top 5 all time when everything is said and done on content sales alone. Not factoring in merchandise via the Disney machine.

Why can't some dolt at Upper Deck figure out that the fan base that spent all that money would be interested in a proper product release. Just ride the coattails of the movie and it'll sell itself. Get some damn autos from the movie. 3 actors. And people want Upper Deck to get back the MLB license.....ha ha.

Good luck pushing this product.

Does make you wonder how Rittenhouse would do with a full Marvel licence doesn't it?
Look how they've done with Star Trek, and James bond...nearly every major cast member has signed and on card to boot.

And when they did do Marvel with the Agents of Shield sets (TV is likely easier, I know) they got every main cast member including the likes of Jaimie Alexander and Cobie Smulders - again on card where UD only managed stickers for their movie release cards.

Heck, even Cryptozoic hit it out of the park with the The Hobbit Autos - Hey collector, you want 35+ cast autographs ? You want them on card ? Sure no problem...

Some comparing of recent releases -

Rittenhouse : Star Trek Beyond - 52 different autograph cards - 30 Signers inc main cast - on card autos guaranteed at 2 per box - $69 for a box

Cryptozoic : Hobbit Battle of Five Armies - 37 different autograph cards - 25 Signers inc most of the main cast - on card autos guaranteed at 1 per box - $75 for a box

Topps : The Last Jedi - 30 Different autograph cards - 21 Signers inc the main cast - Sticker Autos - An Auto isn't guaranteed in a box - $90 for a box

Upper Deck : Marvel Black Panther (as we know it so far, happy to be corrected) - 12 Different Autograph cards - 3 Signers - Most likely Sticker Autos - An Auto isn't guaranteed in a box - $115 for a box

Am I missing anything ?

AusRam: remember as well.....Rittenhouse also released the Iron Man set (Favreau, Bridges, Gregg, Howard, and Downey Jr), Hulk set (much like their Buffy sets but still got Edward Norton), and the X-Men Origins Wolverine set which had autographs of Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Liev Schrieber along with a few lower known like Lynn Collins, Danny Huston, Taylor Kitsch. All on card.

Like can we just have Rittenhouse obtain the license for Captain Marvel, Avengers 4 and everything after?

As disappointed I am in the set, Rittenhouse not a fair comparison any more, as Disney now owns these rights and are much more controlling and rigid. Not all this is on upper deck. Look how much Star Wars changed once became Disney.
I’m sure Disney aspect of this plays a large part too. And we need keep that in mind when we discuss these sets.

Well, given that Agents of SHIELD falls under the same Disney as the movies, I don't know if this is quite an excuse. Topps gets all the big names to sign for Star Wars without issue as well.

Shrug, I don’t count tv as same as movies. An we have no idea the contract and terms between the two franchises. But hey makes you feel better to put all the blame on upper deck, I can’t argue with it.

I just know that Disney has a say so in these sets. Maybe the stars that work marvel had more say so in what they sign. I don’t pretend to know all the details that goes into getting actors to sign for cards. I just don’t it’s think it’s fair to 100 percent blame upper deck. Just seems easier cause we know Upperdeck Matt is here and someone we can hold accountable.

I don’t know. Marvel movies have bigger stars than most Star Wars movies, and the more we’ll known stars in Star Wars movies rarely sign . Ie del toro, Isaac, etc. sure topps gets the hamills and daisy, but they aren’t stars independent of the movies

But then if you consider the set we're talking about wouldn't you think they would be able to get a lot more signers as not many of the cast would be considered well known stars ?

Yeah, I know, I just thought I'd stick to the more recent stuff to try and be a little more fair

You're probably right, especially when it comes to movie images, plotlines and the like, but I wouldn't think they'd have a whole lot of input when it comes to who can be approached to sign ?

I'd be thinking if it was okay to have one actor sign for a set, it'd likely be okay to have them all...
