Default Sales History - List of eBay Coupons and eBay Bucks Promotions by Date

Given the frequency of eBay's coupons and eBay Bucks promotions, I thought it might be a good idea to start an archive of promotions and related dates so that this can be taken into account when viewing sales history. While we all love these promotions, they also have a potentially negative impact on perceived FMV (for potential buyers), as they artificially inflate completed sales prices, and completed sales results on eBay give no indication of this. I would certainly like to know when sales prices have been inflated by as much as $100 due to a promotion.

If anyone has any older promotions dates available, please let me know and I will be happy to add them to the list.

07/11/18 - 15% off coupon
06/29/18 - 15% coupon (max value $100)
6/19-20: 8% eBay Bucks
6/12-14: 10% eBay Bucks
6/6: 20% coupon
6/2-3: 10% eBay Bucks

5/21-22: 8% eBay Bucks
5/15-17: 6% eBay Bucks
5/4: 15% coupon

4/26: 15% coupon
4/19-20: 8% eBay Bucks

3/30: 15% coupon
3/27: 15% coupon
3/22-23: 15% eBay Bucks
3/20: 15% coupon
3/15-17: 8% eBay Bucks
3/9: 20% coupon

People are willing to pay more for an item if they can reduce the price through either a coupon or bucks refund.
This thread should be in the Ebay forum, not the baseball board.

this seems too frequent...I wouldn't count any %off coupons if they are only for select sellers and/or select categories

a 2013 Heritage Trout PSA 10 sold for 719 yesterday. It was at 649 forever. Seller raised the price, buyer took 15%, and a card that is probably 400-450 in PSA 10 now has a recorded sale of 700+

The promos they’ve listed were for everything, like yesterday’s was. Not those horrible select seller promos

Yup, people are willing to pay a little more for an item knowing they are getting a certain amount off, and still paying less than they normally would.

If a card normally sells for $185, and one is listed for $210, a buyer could straight buy the $210 and pay less than in the end, but now there's a sale of $210 for the card.

I understand the usefulness of tracking something like this. But... This is all assuming people actually used the coupon on the item.
I guess one could assume that if something was priced well over current market sales and it was purchased on a day that a coupon was offered, that a coupon was indeed used. But there’s really no way on knowing. And wouldn’t this assumption negate the tracking of the beginning of an actual market increase in certain circumstances?

Seeing this list made me realize that I've never gotten an ebay bucks promotion.

Do people really have the time to cross-reference the date of sales, to potential eBay sales promos and then calculate the “real” fair value of an item?

I for one can say that I won’t pay much more for an item just because there is a sale. Getting a discount on the item is a draw, but not if the discount brings you back nearly to what you should pay for it (because the price is inflated). I picked up a card yesterday I was watching for 4-5 days and almost bought before the 15% sale. The sale put me over the edge but chances are I would have pulled the trigger regardless at some point.

I also had a a few auctions I was watching last night on some high dollar cards that would have been big discounts that ended surprisingly lower than I expected.

I don’t doubt there is some inflation, probably more so on some cards than others, but I think it’s very hard to say it’s moving the market materially in any way.

No offense but this seems like a colossal waste of time. How will you know if a promo was used when an item as purchased, especially considering not everyone gets every promo. If you see a sale price that may not be inline with previous sales you’re going to assume it had to have been purchased at that price only because a promo was going on?

I feel I’m going to buy the card anyway.
But if I can save, even better.

LOL thanks!

No - not every sale that happens on a given date will be a coupon sale - but I would rather take all of those sales with a grain of salt, as I think coupons greatly influence sales on the dates listed above. For starters - buying increases on those days as buyers look to take advantage of the discount. And...sellers also look to capitalize, by listing items slightly above FMV, looking for a quick sale at a strong price, etc.

As it is now, eBay does all that they can to manipulate sales data in an attempt to inflate perceived FMV. If you want to ignore it, that's fine - but I would prefer not to just accept everything eBay tries to sell us. Everyone treats eBay completed sales as a de facto price guide - and yet, eBay manipulates these numbers (always upward) at every turn.

I completely agree, especially on hot cards. As soon as the 15-20% off coupons go live a lot of hot cards with slightly higher than normal Buy It Now prices start selling. So a card that was selling for $500 will sell for $550-$600 because the discount offsets the increased price. Keep in mind that not everyone knows about the eBay coupons as they might not buy much from eBay, but are insistent on using eBay as a price guide. So these people think that the value has increased and that drives asking prices up further (especially for those selling off eBay, as they use the last few sales to determine their market value). For most cards this isn't a big deal, but for hot cards like Trout RCs it can have a pretty substantial impact.

I know we just saw a 3 day eBay bucks promotion, but I wonder if we will get anything because I have a large purchase I want to make. Probably not and I will make it, then next week there will be something.

Overlay these dates against sales of 2011 Trout Update RC’s and you’ll see why his current prices are not at all justified.

If you are breaking down his post (I like to break down every post and get to the fine details)

People at that time bought Trout just to buy it because they had a coupon.

I was one of them.

Seller just accepted my best offer on a $70 card. I know they just had ebay bucks last week, is it worth waiting another day or 2 to see if they have another special, or is too soon? Of course I plan on giving the sellers a heads up if I do
