Some of the good stuff.....

BB: Are you sticking with the ’53 Topps design? You’re not going to suddenly switch to another design in the middle of this, are you?

CL: We’re sticking with the ’53 design. If you’re going to do this type of artwork, it only makes sense on the 1953 design. We always said from the beginning the key to this product is going to be the look and feel of it. If we make a beautiful set, it will sell itself.

BB: It seems like one of the things that helps make this work is that these cards aren’t tricked up. There aren’t autographs, serial numbering or Chrome versions – things that work in other programs, but probably not this one. Can you say unequivocally that you aren’t going to mess with the set?

CL: We’re not going to mess with the set. This product is about simplicity. This product is supposed to harken back to the days of the 1953 set because that was the inspiration. You don’t to do anything with it. People want the cards to enjoy them as they are. This was built in a particular way and it’s going to stay that way. If you want Chrome or autographs, we’ve got other products that include those. Not this one.

BB: How important is the artwork to this venture?

CL: I can’t speak enough about the artwork. Mayumi is an amazing, talented artist. She’s just so humbled with the reaction that she’s gotten from her artwork. Just the detail and work she puts into it…we’re very fortunate to be working with someone like her and for her to be a part of this. And she understands what this set means to the company. This is the 1953 design, a cornerstone in the company’s portfolio that has so much history. - Without question.... this is the BEST thing about this set.

CL: We’ll only do the retired players once.

CL: We’re in this for the long haul and we don’t want to rush anything, but we have discussed doing subjects that are within
the game of baseball, but not necessarily players. We have talked about managers, front office people. We’ve talked about innovators of the game. We’ve even talked about mascots. Mr. Met is held in high regard. The idea of this [project] is to cover the game of baseball. We want the Living Set to truly capture the game.
Maybe she should draw this guy with this picture!

I’m sure TLS has also helped.

Not I. I’m making a few Living Sets but this was a pass for me. Like the wrapper design but don’t see at as part of the set in any way. Hope the value skyrockets for those that bought to flip.

I would like to see a card this with the current year at the top though. So a 2018 one to put in front of 2018. And then a 2019 one to put in front of those. Would be cool to differentiate a bit when they came out.

I think if I was building a 53 set I would have bought the wrapper card. It’s a 2018 set and that’s why I like it. I don’t think anyone is sour because they didn’t buy the wrapper card, it’s just personal preference.

TLS nomenclature.

Will PSA, Beckett etc. always refer to this as “2018 Topps Living?”

If it changes to 2019 Topps Living, will it be the first set after Jan.1 2019 or first week of 2019 MLB season.

Also, do you think the set registry be broken up By year or stay as one, never ending set?

Scherzer pitching lights out against one of the worst teams in baseball on his Living release day as expected. LOL

I think they would change it from year to year, for rookie designation only,

and If they did change the year, start on the 1st Wednesday of the new year and not March 23 (like this year) so this years cards would be 1-111 (37 weeks) and card 112 starts Jan 2, 2019 (for 52 weeks).
If not they would be able to add RC to "2018" rookies up til Game 1, 2019

Got my 20 card Soto lot in today. All looks great. Definitely a different card stock. 10's should be pretty easy from here on out. Not easily flaked like the stock for the earlier cards.

I received my 10. Agree on the card stock, it’s noticeably different. All of mine were PSA candidates based on condition but while checking centering I had to take 5 of 10 out. Centering (mostly rear centering) on these will continue to keep PSA 10’s down imo.

might be a good time for a wrapper card or checklist in the Jan. 2, 2019 week

I would love a checklist but make it for the last card of 2018 to put as a nice closure of 2018 and make it a 4 card set that week instead of a 3 card set on 12/26/18.

I like the idea of the checklist and “cover card” for the set. Maybe given out one to each address that bought like the Now Christmas card and spring training Trout cards. With coupon codes of course. I’ll suggest this to Jeeves this weekend.
