I saw him play for the 51’s a couple weeks ago, he looked very stiff and his posture was very upright. He looked old, but he did make a nice barehand play.

I had to wipe tears from my eyes a few times. Sad to see the Captain go. I’m even sadder because it wasn’t on his own terms. I’m proud that he is a lifetime Met.

Thank you #5!

A great send-off for a beloved player, very moving.

Thanks, David!

If boone can manage the yankees, why can’t David manage the mets?

I think we will see it eventually, probably when his daughters are older. I'm sure he wants to be at home for the foreseeable future. Looking forward to it.

Because David made more money and doesn't need the stress

Just saw the clip from tonight. Definitely cried.

Baseball skill and worth as a person combined, the best ballplayer I have ever seen in my life. Don't think there will be another Met like him.

Thanks Cap. You made me love Baseball all over again. Enjoy your family.

Did you really cry? He hasn't played since 2016 and hasn't been remotely relevant since 2012. "The Captain" played 7 full seasons for the Mets lol

Yeah I did. If that seems odd to you, you obviously aren’t a Mets fan. I know you’re not and trolling seems to be your thing around here so I’ll take your comment for what it is.

As a Phillies fan who watched David Wright manhandle them year after year, even I got emotional watching that final ovation

Not a mets fan, correct. I guess I don't know why he is heralded as some all time great Met player, or why a grown man would shed tears during his farewell ovation. I guess there is just a severe dearth of good Mets' players.

Grew up a Mets fan drafted by the Mets in the 1st round in 2001. Made his debut in 2004.

Appeared in 1,585 games in a Mets uniform, 2nd behind only Ed Kranepool.

All-time Mets position leader in:

WAR
Plate Appearances
Runs Scored
Hits
Total Bases
Doubles
RBI
BB

and close in about everything else. Mets are an expansion team, not one with a storied history that began in like 1901.

The greatest Mets player who was with the team exclusively in his career and was heading to being a HOF lock before any injuries. Last captain in baseball for now, was a huge member of the team USA teams. Big in community, with charities, no drama, don't even think he has a twitter or instagram so he can avoid all that stuff.

I'm in my mid-20's and he's basically been the face of Mets baseball since I was just beginning high school. It's really not that hard to see why someone would shed a tear, especially when he has tried to come back and his body won't let him.

When David Wright walking away today, I felt as if I missed witnessing a great career from a player who played his entire career for one team.
