"Black" was always my favorite song from that album.

Here's some Hendrix:

"Well, she's walking through the clouds,
With a circus mind that's running wild,
Butterflies and Zebras,
And Moonbeams and fairy tales.
That's all she ever thinks about.
Riding with the wind.

When I'm sad, she comes to me,
With a thousand smiles she gives to me free.
It's alright, she says it's alright,
Take anything you want from me,
Anything.
Fly on little wing."

Did I ask too much?
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got

You gave me fortune
You gave me fame
You gave me power in your own god's name
I'm every person you need to be
Oh, I'm the cult of personality

I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
And I don't have my freedom, but I don't, I don't have much time
So faith, faith has been broken, and all the tears must be cried
So let's, let's do some living after we die!

Honey I know, I know, I know times are changing
It´s time we all reach out 4 something new
That means you 2
you say you want a leader
But you can´t seem 2 make up your mind
I think you better close it
And let me guide you 2 the purple rain

Well I heard Mister Young sing about her
Well I heard ole Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A southern man don't need him around anyhow

I walk tha corner to tha rubble that used to be a library
Line up to tha mind cemetery now
What we don't know keeps tha contracts alive an movin'
They don't gotta burn tha books they just remove 'em
While arms warehouses fill as quick as tha cells
Rally round tha family, pockets full of shells

Why don't you stay
I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
Don't I give you what you need
When she calls you will go
There is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way
Baby why don't you stay

life is like a shooting star
It don't matter who you are
If you only run for cover, it's just a waste of time
We are lost 'til we are found
This phoenix rises up from the ground
And all these wars are over

When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same

I will light the match this morning so I won't be alone
Watch as she lies silent
For soon light will be gone
Oh I will stand arms outstretched pretend I'm free to roam
Oh I will make my way through one more day in hell

Wretched red tooth and the claw
The tables stick to the floor
Dirty flies and stale tobacco and the price of my soul
So f**k it all, what's in store
No remedy for the poor
Fill my glass against these ruins
My fragments are shorn - My lord

Now pick me up should I fall
Careful I might spend it all
The bar is tapped into my poison
For a fix and a brawl
So keep 'em coming I call
Beer is blood; pour it all
Turn up that goddamned music 'til they show me the door
My lord
Line 'em up
This ain't just pissin in the wind
A sty will blind you in the end
Believe there's wisdom in my plan
Another round - my ruin

All from the greatest modern lyricist:

Well, you left my heart empty as a vacant lot, for any spirit to haunt.

I know I hurt you and I made you cry, did everything but murder you and I.
But love left a window in the sky, and to love, I rhapsodize.

Dressing like your sister. Living like a tart.
They don't know what you're doing. Babe, it must be art.
You're a headache, in a suitcase. You're a star.

I know a girl who's like the sea.
I watch her changing every day for me.
One day she's still, the next she swells.
You can hear the universe in her seashells.

If I could throw this lifeless lifeline to the wind
Leave this heart of clay
See you walk, walk away
Into the night
And through the rain
Into the half-light
And through the flame
If I could through myself
Set your spirit free, I'd lead your heart away
See you break, break away
Into the light
And to the day.

Sweet the sin
Bitter than taste in my mouth
I see seven towers
But I only see one way out
You got to cry without weeping
Talk without speaking
Scream without raising your voice
You know I took the poison
From the poison stream
Then I floated out of here

THE G.O.A.T.

There's a lot of ways of saying what I want to say to you
There's songs and poems and promises and dreams that might come true
But I won't talk of starry skies or moonlight on the ground
I'll come right out and tell you I'd just love to lay you down

Lay you down and softly whisper pretty love words in your ear
Lay you down and tell you all the things a woman loves to hear
I'll let you know how much it means just having you around
Oh darlin' how I'd love to lay you down

There's so many ways your sweet love made this house into a home
You've got a way of doing little things that turn me on
Like standing in the kitchen in your faded cotton gown
With your hair still up in curlers I still love to lay you down

When a whole lot of Decembers are showin' in your face
Your auburn hair has faded and silver takes it's place
You'll be just as lovely and I'll still be around
And if I can I know that I'd still love to lay you down

Lay you down and softly whisper pretty love words in your ear
Lay you down and tell you all the things a woman loves to hear
I'll let you know how much it means just having you around
Oh darlin' how I'd love to lay you down

Lay you down and softly whisper pretty love words in your ear
Lay you down and tell you all the things a woman loves to hear
I'll let you know how much it means just having you around
Oh darlin' how I'd love to lay you down

Lay you down and softly whisper pretty love words in your ear
Lay you down and tell you all the things a woman loves to hear
I'll let you know how much it means just having you around
Oh darlin' how I'd love to lay you down

There's a red house over yonder
That's where my baby stays
Lord, there's a red house over yonder
Lord, that's where my baby stays
I ain't been home to see my baby
In ninety nine and one half days

[Verse 2]
Wait a minute, something's wrong here
The key won't unlock this door
Wait a minute, something's wrong
Lord have mercy, this key won't unlock this door
Somethings goin' on here
I have a bad, bad feeling
That my baby don't live here no more
(That's alright I still got my guitar, look out now!)

[Guitar Solo]

[Outro]
Well I might as well go on over yonder
Way back up on the hill
(I got something to do)
Lord, I might as well go back over yonder
Way back yonder 'cross the hill
Cause if my baby doesn't love me no more
I know her sister will!

I carry mine with me. It is in my signature...

also this song is so epic in concert. Learn to swim bitches!

Tool ænema

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@ three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless #@#@#@#@ing hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any #@#@#@#@ing time. Any #@#@#@#@ing day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a
#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@ three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless #@#@#@#@ing hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any #@#@#@#@ing time. Any #@#@#@#@ing day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this

Silly #@#@#@#@, stupid #@#@#@#@...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim.

Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim.

#@#@#@#@ L Ron Hubbard and
#@#@#@#@ all his clones.
#@#@#@#@ all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

#@#@#@#@ retro anything.
#@#@#@#@ your tattoos.
#@#@#@#@ all you junkies and
#@#@#@#@ your short memory.

Learn to swim.

#@#@#@#@ smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
#@#@#@#@ these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush it down.

I was as weak as it was strong
When I crawled up inside that glass
I had a friend try to pull me out
Lord knows where he is now
He told me I ought to put it down
And I told him to kiss my ass
I dropped him right there where he stood
Just to prove I could

Hell bent on a hell bound road
My whole life spinning out of control
It wasn’t his business anyway
I was too drunk to fight and way too gone to stay
Wasn’t one for backing down, God I wish he’d have stood his ground
Looked past a friend looking out for my own good
Just to prove I could"

"Heaven can’t be far away from the fields of gold where I was raised
Where the sun shines bright but the light comes from the word
Well you know you reap the seeds you sow
You count your blessings row by row
The sweat and blood and tears and love still work
The life I live, the love I give, the man I am
Shadows of the heartland"

"Steal your daddy's Pontiac and plant it in a ditch
Watch him walk to work all week till he could get it fixed
Work it off on the weekends sweatin in a mill
Go there with a debt to pay and leave there with a skill

That's how you make a boy become, more than just his father's son
Fight and crawl, climb and fall, stand tall on your knees
That's how you make a man like me

Let your buddy leave a party, and don't ask him for his keys
Rest that casket on the shoulder where your best friend used to lean
See that baby boy's whole life flash right before his mama's eyes
Live with knowin you could've saved his life

Kick your self for stumblin, but never leave your feet
Lie awake with your mistakes and find peace piece by piece
Pray that you wake up as who you want to be
That's how you make a man like me."

Stream of Passion lyrics are the best lyrics

When You Hurt Me the Most
The air was cold the night I fled, your eyes were more than I could take;
I ran so fast, I ran like hell, and still wasn't able to escape...
The picture's still fixed in my head: the stage was all set at my request;
You took the role, you played it well, I knew it would be easy for you

Strike me harder now, push me to the ground
Pain is sweeter coming from your hand, I love you when you hurt me the most

So fell the lash repeatedly, the icy words cut me deeper still;
I begged for more, you gave no less, surrendering fully to the game
You took control, I took the blame, you had enough so you looked away;
Deprived of love, deprived of pain, no choice but to keep on sinking

Strike me harder now, push me to the ground
Pain is sweeter coming from your hand
Don't you leave me when I need you the most

No pain or love left for your slave;
My heart is torn yet you smile the same
I'll break the vow, I'll tell myself the words that free me from you

Strike me harder now, push me to the ground
Pain is sweeter coming from your hand
Take your hate and drive it through my heart
But please don't leave me when I need you the most...

The air was cold the night I fled, the pain was more than I could take
You've learned your role; you'll play it well, I know it will be easy for you

Burn My Pain
A thrill, a sigh...
My lips are trembling
Your breath is thick
It blows me away

I know why, I know why
It's the curse you're weaving
And I know I, I know I
Am more than willing to comply

The rush, the dance
Ignite my senses
You hear my plea
It drives you nearer

You know why, you know why
It's the spell that binds us
And I know I, I know I
Am more than willing to comply

I toss and turn
As sleep evades me;
The waves are strong
The urge is stronger

Burn my pain away
Sing the song that I long for
Find the flame within
And reveal all I need to know
Burn this pain away
My soul waits in sweet devotion;
All emotions swell
As I cry out for you

This one always gets me...great music, great lyrics...

We turn away to face the cold, enduring chill
As the day begs the night for mercy love
The sun so bright it leaves no shadows
Only scars carved into stone
On the face of earth
The moon is up and over One Tree Hill
We see the sun go down in your eyes

You run like river, on like a sea
You run like a river runs to the sea

And in the world a heart of darkness
A fire zone
Where poets speak their heart
Then bleed for it
Jara sang, his song a weapon
In the hands of love
You know his blood still cries
From the ground

It runs like a river runs to the sea
It runs like a river to the sea

I don't believe in painted roses
Or bleeding hearts
While bullets rape the night of the merciful
I'll see you again
When the stars fall from the sky
And the moon has turned red
Over One…

From Bruce Springsteen

Grab your ticket and your suitcase
Thunder's rolling down the tracks
You don't know where you're goin' now
But you know you won't be back
Darlin' if you're weary
Lay your head upon my chest
We'll take what we can carry
And we'll leave the rest

Big wheels rolling through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams

I will provide for you
And I'll stand by your side
You'll need a good companion
For this part of the ride
Leave behind your sorrows
Let this day be the last
Tomorrow there'll be sunshine
And all this darkness past

Big wheels roll through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams

This train carries saints and sinners
This train carries losers and winners
This train carries whores and gamblers
This train carries lost souls
I said, this train dreams will not be thwarted
This train faith will be rewarded
This train hear the steel wheels singin'
This train bells of freedom ringin'

This train carries saints and sinners
This train carries losers and winners
This train carries whores and gamblers
This train carries lost souls
I said, this train carries broken-hearted
This train thieves and sweet souls departed
This train carries fools and kings
This train, all aboard

I said, this train dreams will not be thwarted
This train faith will be rewarded
This train hear the steel wheels singin'
This train bells of freedom ringin'

Come on this train
People get ready
You don't need no ticket
All you got do is just get on board
On board this train
This train, people get ready
You don't need no ticket (oh I know you don't)
You don't need no ticket you just get on board (people get ready)
You just thank the Lord (people get ready)

Come on this train (people get ready)

Nice to see the love for Bono's lyrics (from other people than me, even) in this thread. His personality may rub some the wrong way, but the man is a friggin' poet. Another standout is this one, a sobering ode to what so many unfortunately strive for in this world.

If coke is a mystery
Michael Jackson, history
If beauty is truth
And surgery the fountain of youth
What am I to do?
Have I got the gifts to get me through
The gates of that mansion?
If OJ is more than a drink
And a Big Mac bigger than you think
And perfume is an obsession
And talk shows confession
What have we got to lose?
Another push and maybe we'll be through
The gates of that mansion.

I never bought a lotto ticket
I never parked in anyone's space
The banks they're like cathedrals
I guess casinos took their place
Love, come on down
Don't wake her she'll come around
Chance is a kind of religion
Where you're damned for plain hard luck
I never did see that movie
I never did read that book
Love, come on down
Let my numbers come around
Don't know if I can hold on
Don't know if I'm that strong
Don't know if I can wait that long
'Till the colors come flashing
And the lights go on
Then will there be no time of sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame
And though I can't say why
I know I've got to believe
We'll go driving in that pool
It's who you know that gets you through
The gates of the Playboy mansion.

Sorrow by Bad Religion:

Father can you hear me?
How have I let you down?
I curse the day that I was born
And all the sorrow in this world

Let me take you to the hurting ground
Where all good men are trampled down
Just to settle a bet that could not be won
Between a prideful father and his son
Will you guide me now, for I can't see
A reason for the suffering and this long misery
What if every living soul could be upright and strong
Well, then I do imagine

There will be sorrow
Yeah there will be sorrow
And there will be sorrow no more

When all soldiers lay their weapons down
Or when all kings and all queens relinquish their crowns
Or when the only true messiah rescues us from ourselves
It's easy to imagine

There will be sorrow
Yeah there will be sorrow
And there will be sorrow no more

There will be sorrow
Yeah there will be sorrow
And there will be sorrow no more

Yeah there will be sorrow
Yeah there will be sorrow
And there will be sorrow no more

We're ok
Until the day we're not
The surface shines
While the inside rots
We raced the sunset and we almost won
We slammed the brakes,
But the wheels went on

The return of the Thin White Duke, throwing darts in lovers' eyes:

"I'm an alligator, I'm a mama-papa coming for you
I'm the space invader, I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' b**** for you
Keep your mouth shut, you're squawking like a pink monkey bird
And I'm busting up my brains for the words
Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream, oh yeah
Don't fake it baby, lay the real thing on me
The church of man, love, is such a holy place to be
Make me baby, make me know you really care
Make me jump into the air..."

"Didn't know what time it was and the lights were low
I leaned back on my radio
Some cat was layin' down some get it on rock 'n' roll, he said
Then the loud sound did seem to fade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase haze
That weren't no D.J. that was hazy cosmic jive."

"You ain't a pimp and you ain't a hustler
A pimp's got a Cadi and a lady got a Chrysler
Black's got respect, and white's got his soul train
Mama's got cramps, and look at your hands ache
(I heard the news today, oh boy)
I got a suite and you got defeat
Ain't there a man who can say no more?
And, ain't there a woman I can sock on the jaw?
And, ain't there a child I can hold without judging?
Ain't there a pen that will write before they die?
Ain't you proud that you've still got faces?
Ain't there one damn song that can make me
Break down and cry?"

"She had an horror of rooms she was tired you can't hide beat
When I looked in her eyes they were blue but nobody home
She could've been a killer if she didn't walk the way she do, and she do
She opened strange doors that we'd never close again
She began to wail jealousies scream
Waiting at the lights know what I mean
Scary monsters, super creeps
Keep me running, running scared"

"Nothing much could happen
Nothing we can't shake
Oh, we're absolute beginners
With nothing much at stake
As long as you're still smiling
There's nothing more I need
I absolutely love you
But we're absolute beginners
But if my love is your love
We're certain to succeed
If our love song
Could fly over mountains
Sail over heartaches
Just like the films
If there's reason
To feel all the hard times
To lay down the hard lines
It's absolutely true"

"We are the goon squad and we're coming to town. Beep, beep."

Uncle Tupelo's " Grindstone" for the line : Handcuffs hurt worse, when you done nothing wrong.

If you find yourself standing
At the end of your line
Looking for a piece of something
Maybe peace of mind
Fed up, lost, and run down
Nowhere to hold on
Tired of, "Take your place at the end, son
We'll get to you one by one"

No light ever shines
Dead end tears that dry
Maybe a waste of words and time
Never a waste of life
Every hour will be spent
Filling a quota, just getting along
Handcuffs hurt worse
When you've done nothing wrong

No thanks to the treadmill
No thanks to the grindstone
There's plenty of dissent from
These rungs below
The clockwork of destruction
Hanging low over our heads
Always a smokestack cloud
Or a slow-walking death

Cancel my subscription to the resurrection
Send my credentials to the house of detention

Words for fight and words for fun
They’re all melting into one

I eat more chicken any man ever seen yeah yeah

Like they're waiting for your guard to fall
So they can see it all and you're so
Occupied with what other persons are
Occupied with
And vice versa
And you've become
What you thought was dumb
A fraction of the sum

When the musics over turn out the lights

Bargain - by The Who

I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I had
To find you I'd suffer anything and be glad

I'd pay any price just to get you
I'd work all my life and I will
To win you I'd stand naked, stoned and stabbed

I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I ever had

I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I got
To catch you I'm gonna run and never stop

I'd pay any price just to win you
Surrender my good life for bad
To find you I'm gonna drown an unsung man

I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I ever had

I sit looking 'round
I look at my face in the mirror
I know I'm worth nothing without you
And like one and one don't make two
One and one make one
And I'm looking for that free ride to me
I'm looking for you

I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I got
To catch you I'm gonna run and never stop

I'd pay any price just to win you
Surrender my good life for bad
To find you I'm gonna drown an unsung man

I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had
The best I ever had

It Just Won't Quit by Jim Steinman

And I never really sleep anymore
And I always get those dangerous dreams
And I never get a minute of peace
And I gotta wonder what it means
And I gotta wonder what it means
Maybe it's nothing and I'm under the weather
Maybe it's just one of those bugs going round
Maybe I'm under a spell and it's magic
Maybe there's a witch doctor with an office in town

Is this a blessing? Or is it a curse?
Does it get any better? Can it get any worse?
Will it go on forever? Is it over tonight?
Does it come with the darkness? Does it bring out the light?
Is it richer than diamonds?
Or just a little cheaper than spit?

I don't know what it is but it just won't quit

And there used to be such an easy way of living
And there used to be every hope in the world
And I used to get everything that I went after
But there never used to be this girl
No there never used to be this girl
Maybe I'm crazy and I'm losing my senses
Maybe I'm possessed by a spirit or such
Maybe I'm desperate and I got no defenses
Can you get me a prescription for that one perfect touch?

Is this a blessing? Or is it a curse?
Does it get any better? Can it get any worse?
Will it go on forever? Is it over tonight?
Does it come with the darkness? Does it bring out the light?
Is it a stairway to Heaven
Or a subway going down to the pits?

I don't know what it is but it just won't quit

There was a time when nothing ever really mattered
There was a time when there was nothing I didn't know
There was a time when I knew just what I was living for
There was a time and the time was so long ago
There was a time and the time was so long ago
And I never really sleep anymore

I also really love this set from Objects in the Rear View Mirror

There was a beauty living on the edge of town
And she always put the top up and the hammer down
And she taught me everything I'll ever know
About the mystery and the muscle of love

The stars would glimmer and the moon would glow
I'm in the back seat with my Julie like a Romeo
And the signs along the highway all said, Caution! Kids At Play!

Those were the rights of spring and we did everything
There was salvation every night
We got our dreams reborn and our upholstery torn
But everything we tried was right

She used her body just like a bandage, she used my body just like a wound
I'll probably never know where she disappeared But I can see her rising up
Out of the back seat now just like an angel rising up from a tomb

Taxman - The Beatles

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman
If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.
Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me.
