Such a shame people are spending so much money with this company. Your cards that sit in 9.5 and 10 holders merely by the hair of a subgrade, were easily 8.5s and 9's on another day. Sold this card and knew it would eventually surface as a 9.5. This is why I will never again grade a card with BGS.
They really just take your money and offer nothing but some false validation, or worse, invalidation. ![]() |

What's the problem? New owner just took Giannis to the barber to get his edges cleaned up.

I picked up 8 cards from BGS last week. Seven of them were .5 from bump. The company wants resubs and more money.
To be fair, I've submitted many times and this is the first time I've gotten results like this. And when I submitted the cards they graded mostly how I thought. Sorry about your tough grade though! Last edited by DevinKurant; 10-29-2018 at 10:09 AM. Reason: had to tell the full story |

I had a BGS 8.5 Tim Duncan Topps Chrome Refractor RC get a PSA 10. BGS gave it a 8.5 because of the 60/40 centering. PSA is more lenient on centering. Boom, PSA 10.

Most cards with an 8.5+ overall grade look the same to me, with the exception being a card with relatively poor centering. I love when a card I’m after shows up as a PSA 9 or BGS 9 on eBay. Guarantees a nice card over purchasing raw, but doesn’t have the same built in insane price of a 9.5 or 10.

As the saying goes. "Buy the card, not the grade."
Conversely. "Sell the grade, not the card."

Ding! Ding! Ding!
We have a winner! I tried to explain many months ago that BGS only cares about their bottom line and this is just another blatant example how they go about doing just that I see not much has changed since my LAST submission to BGS a little over a year ago Its corporate greed and a complete sham Unreal Last edited by Starman101; 10-29-2018 at 10:22 AM. |

This is not new. If you use BGS to grade you have stories of cards getting bumped.
Human eye on every grade is subjective. Until they use algorithms and AI to give every card an unbiased grade The whole process is laughable. And yes I grade with BgS and yes I have gotten bumps that netted me major profits on cards.

Grading is subjective, but I prefer it when selling so there's no debate about the card condition. Of course, you have people then complaining about the condition of the case. Maybe they need to start grading that, too.

Why didn’t you just resubmit it yourself if you knew it would show up as a 9.5 eventually?

PSA is just as bad, cant believe how many psa 10's I have seen with back centering basically 90/10

If I sent you the same card 10 times and asked you to grade it with subgrades, I would bet good money the grades you assigned would be different

I just lost a collector relationship over admitting to someone that I cut cards out and regrade. Is this normal? Are there collectors that are so anti-regrading that they cut ties with people? I was very explicit that I don't alter the card in any way, but he still hasn't spoken to me.

it's subjective. There's no absolute guidebook saying a .5857 mm chip or greater damage on a corner or edge = 1/2 point reduction in sub grade. It's inexact. How much damage to a corner or edge = an 8 or 7.5 or 8.5 or 9 etc...they use words and phrases like slight fraying or minor chipping so anything on the border can go one way or another and swing a grade.. I actually find most sub grades consistent. Surface can be the most mysterious, as is the "trimmed" assessment on pack fresh cards that are the exact size as a normal card. I never understood that one either but the subs are actually pretty consistent considering the millions of cards graded.

Go to the grading section and check out the Brady that went from a psa 7 to a psa 10 by I’m assuming a spell by Harry Potter. But hey if that’s what other people want to spend their money on, cool with me.

I never understand threads like this attacking one grading company or another.
As others have said, at the end of the day, it's a person on the other end looking at your card (and hundreds of others in a given day) and assigning a grade to it based on what they see (or don't see). Whatever problem/issue you want to bring up with one company, there's tons of examples on these boards and elsewhere of the same problem/issue happening with the other company. The difference is, BGS is open and transparent about how they give and assign certain grades whereas PSA isn't. As we can see, this oftentimes seems to open BGS up to more scrutiny than PSA seems to get for the exact same human-error issues.

That's why I only pay ~20% for 9.5 over raw at best.
While 9's are cheaper than raws... No need to pay that huge premium. |

Edges going from 8.5 to 9.5 is a head scratcher.
I'll say this in semi-defense of the grading companies. I'm sure there are even more resubs that come back the same or worse that we don't hear about. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
