Default Trip Down Memory Lane

Preface: My wife and I bought a new house with enough room for all of the stuff of mine that was still at my childhood home and I now have a vehicle with enough room to bring it back with me so when I took my kid's there for a visit this summer I brought it all back with me. Here is some of the football stuff I have gone through so far. I will add to this post as I come across more and will be posting in other sports forums for those of you interested.

Sports Illustrated:

For some reason I felt the need to save almost every Sports Illustrated I ever got and I found this one to be absolutely hilarious when I cam across it. Best QB Class since '83

Starting Lineups & Headliners:

My dad, brother, and I loved collecting Starting Lineups. My dad focused exclusively on baseball so I am guessing some of these were presents or things I bought when they were on sale or it appears from when Venture was going out of business.

Cards in a Can:
For some reason I never opened these and I do not know why. There are odds on the can for inserts. I am guessing the corners on the cards are destroyed by this point in time as the can has probably been shaken close to a million times. I guess I also felt I did not need to open the Packer team set (check out the price).

The Cheese League:

When I was growing up The Cheese League happened in Wisconsin. This was what they called all of the NFL teams that held their training camps in the state of Wisconsin. I was fortunate enough to live close to Platteville (Chicago Bears) and La Crosse (New Orleans Saints). My dad was also usually on shutdown the last week or two of August so we would go to Green Bay. The only time we went to River Falls (Kansas City Chiefs) it was family night and there were thousands of people there instead of the normal hand full so we didn't really get any autographs. Here are some of the things I acquired and I know I have a ton of autographs and player gear someplace. The Saints and Chiefs roster is from when they had a scrimmage in La Crosse.

This is one of the only items Ricky would sign his rookie year

I've always been convinced that Tim Couch could have been great if he wouldn't have been thrown right into the fire with an expansion franchise. He had a fairly decent rookie year, got hurt in his 2nd season and it was all downhill from there. I'm not saying he was going to be an all time great but he was capable of so much more.

It's hard to believe that he is 41 years old. So if he would have panned out he would probably be retiring right now or would have retired a couple years ago. Time is savage for us all.

Meh, they gave him plenty of time in Cleveland. 5 seasons of being the starter, I think he showed what he was.

Green Bay came and kicked his carcass in 2004, and they said junk. The Jaguars did the same a couple years later and still took a pass.

If you cant make the roster behind David Garrard & Quinn Gray, I'm not sure how much talent was there.

Couch and David Carr never had a real chance to develop. The amount of hits they sustained early in their careers ruined any potential they had.

Should have said "pick of the litter box"...the fat guy in the dog pound get up probably could have matched Akili Smith's 5 tds in 17 starts.

I had some time to go through more of my stuff today and here are a few more of the things I found.

Another Starting Lineup. When the market goes back up on them I'm going to be rich haha.

Here are a few of the cards I found interesting. I think these all came from auctions. My dad likes to buy any cards he can get for cheap when he goes to an auction. Also, who else remembers when they put phone cards in packs of cards?

I found some old notepads today that I used to get autographs at NFL training camps. I will post pictures of the good ones when I have time to look through them. This has been a lot of fun for me as I have not seen a lot of this stuff in probably over 15 years.

Omg..I just got rid of a ton of Beckett, Sports Illustrated, ESPN and every other sports magazine just a few years ago. I thought I would make a ton of money by keeping them for years. When I tried to sell them I was only able to sell a few like the Barry Sanders..the others I couldn't even sell at a garage sale for 4 for $1. But they were a blast to look back through when I was able to get them from my mom's house. Love stuff like this!

Here are some of the autographs I collected at Training Camp. I have not had time to go through all of the notebooks and decipher who is who. Reggie was a great signer. He would sign, but you had to walk with him. My dad ended up getting the program signed for me because I kept getting trampled. Then when my dad got my brother's program signed the next day, Reggie asked him his name and personalized it "To: Ken." My brother is still mad about it to this day.

I feel similar sentiment for Couch. I also feel that way about David Carr.
