I thought Wal-Mart sold some of the purples online last year? Didn't see any in stores however.

Here is the WM listing.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/18-Topps-...sive/853515244

Includes "5 Rare Exclusive Assorted Purple Parallel Cards (5)." Not sure if these are the TRU purples or not. Did any one order these last year?

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

With regard to your first statement about insert sets, the more difficult/expensive an insert set is to put together, the less likely collectors are to try to build it. That actually drives market value down, because demand decreases.

In the case of the set I was referring to, the 150 years Greatest Players/Moments/Seasons set, you only get three per hobby box, which means 50 boxes with perfect collation (i.e. 4+ cases) to build it. That pretty much kills demand.

On the other hand, if they had split the three 50 card groups among the three series (1, 2, Update) and seeded them six per box (i.e. 1:4), it would only take roughly one case to build the set, and more collectors would try to do it.

With regards to color parallels, finding someone to trade with that has cards you want is fairly time-prohibitive and difficult. And while there are collectors who put together rainbows, they are relatively far and few between.

Having 2-3 parallels per base cards is reasonable...having 12 (foil, vintage stock, gold, independence day, black, mother's day pink, father's day blue, memorial day camo, purple, 150th anniversary stamp, platinum, & printing plates) is just crazy, especially since parallels #/d higher than 25 have very little additional value unless they are of superstars.

I think Meijer packs win the value battle this year. 3.50 for 2 purples, 1 Stars of the Game insert, and 1-2 other inserts per pack.

Their blasters are generic though, no Wal-Mart hand-me-downs.

Think you're wrong on parallels. 12 might be a couple too many, but there are people who will passively collect them (not try for the complete rainbow, but they'll take them as they come up). Think you're underestimating on that front.

You're pretty close to right on insert sets though, IMO. It's not just less people doing it....but people are more likely to buy a few bigger lots, keeping others from buying individual inserts a couple at a time. Building these sets through shows becomes so much tougher.

The prices one specific ebay seller sets every release makes me wonder what is up.
They are listing iconic inserts, for quite great prices, but it's not that...they had the best selling card, the Trout Update for $2.49 (and the Bowman Trout for $2.24) which they priced lower than 90% of the other cards in the iconic set including cards like the Strasburg, etc
All Trouts were bought instantly and with the 40%, the 25 trout cards were just $35 shipped (heck they even priced some of the more common 1984 cards higher)...so many good buys especially if you are trying to fill gaps or stock up on certain rc, or heck, simply to resell.

even the medallion manu relics as low as $5 with 50 cents shipping...how in the world? shipping runs as much as $3.09 for those now, even if they sell multiples
I will never understand it, but to each their own, in the meantime, I'll keep picking up deals

I ordered one and got lucky with Judge, Hoskins, Devers, Hays, and Trea Turner purples. Yes, they were TRU.

I apologize, but I’m left in the dark this year on baseball. What rookies in series 1 should I be looking for? Anyone noteworthy?

Just opened 4 boxes I picked up at the Fantastic store, I really like the design and the backs of the cards. Didn't get any autos but liked pulling the Trout, Judge, Posey and Scherzer SP as well as a Yaz SSP.

Not really in terms of rookies but the hobby boxes (compared to jumbo boxes) have greater value than the past. The SP and SSPs are doing well right now.

Busted a jumbo and a half as well as about half a hobby box today. Didn't hit any colors nor any variations in the 14 packs of Jumbo I opened. I thought that was really weird. I did hit 2 variations in 8 packs of hobby. Had some trade credit, so wound up spending $200 in all ($15/pack of Jumbo and $5/pack of Hobby). Here's everything I hit (Acuna came out of a fat pack on Friday night) ...

Not sure if any one has read Brent's twitter but he was only able to make 3 master sets from 49 cases. That is just crazy.

Yeah I made close to two out of 15 cases and loads of retail.

With that being said, anyone on here who has opened a fair amount and is trying to complete a master set or two, please feel free to reach out to me. I would love to do some old fashioned trading to fill some gaps! That 150th Set is a beast.

In 9 hobby cases, I fell 10 cards short of a master.

1 Iconic and 9 150.

What are your needs Don?

I had about 100 needs for inserts and 100 for golds and foils...and guess where I was able to fill them so fast/cheap? Yep, you got it!
Was able to complete 5 more master sets plus 2 gold and 2 foil sets, filling all gaps except 150 years since those aren't yet listed. Soon, I hope.

that is a bummer, 9 cases, just unreal...my 4th master set was actually just 1 iconic card short...didn't even realize it, and my 5th sets was only 2 cards short.
but still, it's unreal, these should be $2k master sets based off this ha
