Yes, that's exactly what I was referring to. Vlads situation will be the same as acuna. Id assume he doesn't get a base card in series 2, but who knows. JA base card with parallels is >>>>>>>>>> than a SSP card without parallels.

I'm curious which product would people here prefer Vlad to be in...Series 2 or Update, as a regular base with parallels (or Heritage High). I imagine Update to reduce the amount of his RC logo cards available for the current year...but who knows if Topps would crank up the printing press for Update/Update Chrome to make up for that. Getting Vlad in as a Series 2 base card though would help Topps move their thousands of factory sets in multiple formats. I wonder if Topps intentionally did those two SP to move the hobby cases. If they had not included them into the Series 2 hobby cases, would that product have moved as well for Topps? From a business perspective, which would they (Topps) profit more from, having Vlad in S2 or Update this year to sell product?

One would think that with the 2016 Bowman Chrome gem mint base of Vlad going for 100+, that would make Acuna's 2017 Bowman Chrome gem mint base severely undervalued right now at 40? I'm seeing those starting to trend upwards in the past week or so...but perhaps still a lot room for upward movement? for the price of a vlad gem mint, might be able to pick up an Acuna BGS 10 at the right time too...

very true! so does that still mean Vlad is twice as valuable as Acuna lol? there has to be a lot of the Vlad base chromes out there too like the 2017 Acuna base chromes...it's not like Topps decide to scale down production on the 2016 Bowman product. The 2017 Mega (first year Bowman Mega right?) on the other hand though is more limited...

The bigger issue on the Vlad-Acuna Base FY chrome comparison is the existence of Acuna's 2018 RCs. A fair portion of the Acuna investment $ shifted from 17 FY BC to 2018 RCs.
Almost regardless of performance the same thing will happen to Vlad's 2016 cards when his 2019 RCs hit the market. They will fall across the board unless he's hitting .400 w/ 15hr in June.
- other than a few to hold for long term pc, you can't be holding Vlad's 2016 when his rookie cards are released

Yes...completely agree on the 2017/2018 Acuna and 2016/2019 Vlad observation. If I had 2016 Vlads, I would be selling right now.

A lot of people doubted that prices could be any higher then they were recently, but many of us knew that was not true.

Last couple of BCA sales:

Green BCAR PSA 10 $-4300
Base True Gem BGS 9.5/10- $1299.95
Ref BCAR BGS 9/10 w 8.5 centering- $961 (auction)
Ref Raw- $1150
Base Raw- $825
Ref PSA 9- $1100
Base BGS 9.5/10 great subs- $1250
Purple PSA 10- $1799.99
Purple Raw- $1350

These are all from Feb 6 forward. Not even at ST, crazy.

This is a joke, right? It's clear as day this is NOT the certified autograph version.

I am going to stock up on his non-first chrome "pre-rookies" as they are only around a buck or two each.

Thanks. That’s the idea I was going with. The bubble in non-numbered stuff will pop eventually.

What kind of numbers will he have to put up for his cards to maintain their current prices? I'm thinking somewhere around 30-100-310.

I doubt it. Look at Acuna’s cards right now. EVERYTHING is on fire and it’s not even spring training. He’ll need to show he can roll in the majors and people will be lapping up his 2019 RCs. His 2016 stuff will drop but his RCs will be straight fire if he doesn’t deuce the bed.

Acuna had an exceptional year and finished very strong. That's what his cards are selling on.

Um, wont have 2019 RC's, and doesnt have 2016 "stuff". Do you mean 2018 and 2017?

EDIT: Sorry, thought you meant Acuna.

Im thinking there are going to be certain cards of his selling right now that might have some helium in them. Like Im assuming the base papers are $2-3 or so right now those dont have much room to grow, but those Mega Refractors from 17 & 18 - Refractors, Atomics - those might shoot up too as we get closer to ST.

Davenport Player Comps for Vlad Jr. are Sheffield, Murray, but also Gregg Jefferies and Jesus Montero.

Baseball America has compared him to Miguel Cabrera and David Ortiz. Who do we listen to?
