Goldin auctions takes 10-15% seller fee, plus another 20-22% buyer’s premium. If Vegas Dave was manipulating the market, he is paying Goldin nearly 50K to do it. I think it’s doubtful that anyone would do that.

It wasn’t his card that was sold. What I am saying is that he has every reason to bid it up and win it at an obnoxious price. For the sake of argument, say it’s really worth 125. So, he would have overpaid by 61. In doing so, he creates a comp at 186. If that holds up, he has just artificially inflated the value of his other 7 orange BCs by 61 apiece. So, spend 186 to increase your portfolio by 426. And...you aren’t even out the initial investment, as the comp now exists for card #8 also.

Which is what has been said many times over and some folks have no issue with that.

Just shows how much of a scumbag he is. Hopefully he gets thrown in the slammer soon. Not just for a short time, he is clearly a threat to the public, he should be locked up for the rest of his life. Give him time to think about what he has done.

Looks like another one of these showed up (but only for those with deep pockets and a love of grossly overpaying)!

Although given the recent conversation, I should probably add the caveat that it’s only worth what someone is willing to pay (and for this at that amount...I’m not.)

Hmmmmm....it makes sense, but there would need to be a second bidder. So you’re saying that he was colluding with a second bidder to drive up the price artificially, or simply putting in a huge bid? I think the latter is not as heinous as the former.

I really don't like cards like this. I would have never known it was rare. They should really label these somehow.

The 09 BCDP Superfractor Auto did not get such a coverage by Forbes. Perhaps it was due to the fact that the sale took place on ebay.

Its a little interesting, basebcall cards arent regulated like regular securities, so shady folk can get away with stuff easier.
