Default Some advice needed for this Jordan Star

Customer brought this in. So this has been trimmed. Customer has the set. I measured it and it’s about 1/8” short on the bottom. My question is value. What’s this going for in it’s trimmed and current state? He wants to sell. And I want to make a decent offer.

Looking for advice from the community in value. Thanks guys!

I'd guess 2500? What I don't understand is why it didn't get slabbed as Authentic/Altered?

You should have taken a picture with BNC and shared it with us.

Does the set measure the same as the Jordan? If it does it might just be a factory miscut and not altered. Won't help it get graded but at least you would know it is not tampered with.

I measured the set. It’s a cluster. Some measure same as the MJ and some measure up but most measured short. He bought the pack sealed and opened it back in the 80s so he’s the original owner. That’s what he says.

He sent the card to Beckett back in 2015, he also had a lovely 86 fleer rookie bgs 8.5

Good question. Not sure what his peramiters were when sending it in. He sent it in with a bunch of other 80s rookies for grading. All the others graded out. Did u have to specify to Beckett that even if a card is trimmed that you still want it slabbed?

I was under the impression that you needed to specify that otherwise they just send it back like shown above with the reason given why it wasn’t graded...

Owning an authentic but altered copy is as close as I’m gonna get (for the moment) to owning the unaltered one. Not a lot of auction results to work with here. If anyone has any other opinions on value as the card sits currently, id be interested in hearing them. Thx

I think 2k. I would hold out for a lower grade for a few hundred more.

Agree on the 2k Topps. The slabbed ones have gone anywhere from 1800-2100. Some trim jobs look much worse so that would probably go towards higher end of scale

I had an 83-84 Star All-Rookie Dominique Wilkins come back as altered, yet I pulled it from the bag myself. It’s a shame if you are trying to sell, but a good way of getting a genuine card for way less.

I'd pass on the altered card and use that money towards a unaltered one. You should be able to find a BGS 4 around that price range. I know a 4 is not the greatest grade but in my opinion I would rather have that then a card that has been trimmed.

Being short top to bottom doesn’t mean it’s trimmed. You could send it back and it could get graded. Many of the Jordan’s came out short due to their position on the sheet. That’s what caused the diamond cuts.

I have a Star Michael Jordan Rookie am sending in with a few cards to BGS soon. I did a little research on the counterfeit Jordans and what to look for. I also bought a few counterfeits too compare it to. The one that I think is original colour is a little off seem like it was left out under lights or its a older counterfeit nobody haven't seen yet.
