Chrome is the least of your concerns. Paper stock, especially stock prone to chipping (Donruss/Panini/UD) is the highest culprit.

But if worried, 2015/2016 BC are the most LIKELY trimming targets given the stock used those years. Lots of dinged corners from the pack.

Something like a 2018 TCU Soto will have a very very low trim rate over the long haul given most are practically gem from the pack.

Just know your sets and which are condition sensitive. Condition sensitive has the lowest pops, highest ROI for 10s and are thus the prime targets.

Absolutely, if it’s a little oversized. A lot of cards are.

Betsy Huigens here of PWCC.

Thank you all, and especially the original author, for this thorough research and meaningful dialogue. We have been monitoring this and other threads closely. I wanted to take a moment to comment and share some important updates:

1) PWCC will take the lead to address any issues of alteration on cards we've sold. Any buyer who has purchased a card thought to be altered can reach out to me at betsy@pwccmarketplace.com. We will work with the buyer to have the card returned and review the physical evidence, and if the card is proven altered, we will issue a refund of the full purchase price to the buyer. PWCC will work closely with the grading companies in addressing these matters and will do all possible to remove the altered cards from the marketplace.

2) It's our view that the market is maturing. The bad behavior is largely a matter of the recent past and the grading companies have significantly increased their oversight using similar resources used by the members of the community. These tools are inserting accountability for all parties and better days are indeed ahead. That said, it is clear that healing of the past and accountability is needed. PWCC cares deeply about the health of the market and has been formulating a larger stance which will be defined through our “Marketplace Tenets” which we'll announce on our website and on this board in the coming weeks once final discussions with various market contributors are completed. In the meantime, if you have any specific questions or feedback, please send me an email at betsy@pwccmarketplace.com.

No because not only trimming is the reason a
Card can bump
Grades. If I get an 8 and see fingerprints all over it I’m
Going to crack and resub and prop get a 10 just because the previous guy didn’t prep correctly.

Thanks Betsy! Appreciate you providing a response here and for PWCC taking an aggressive approach regarding addressing these issues. Silence on message boards begets sensationalism so information regarding what is being done to address these issues is extremely helpful. To that point, occasional updates as warranted would be very appreciated. And while there is a very vocal group of posters that wishes to see card grading and all accompanying businesses go away, I believe the majority think these services including PWCC are beneficial to the industry and would just like to see protocols in place to help eliminate as much as possible problems addressed in these threads.

I’ll add my voice to say kudos and thank you to OP and superdan for all the work daylighting these issues!
