I should say to the OP. Thank you for the heads up. I'm not looking to just bury my head in the sand. I'm just bummed because aside from the Crosby Cup, hockey has been relatively safe/untainted.

Not accounting for duplicate sales, 23 Black Label McDavid YGs have sold via PWCC and 3 sold via Probstein. Card is POP 35. I can reasonably assert the vast majority are trimmed.

That doesn't include BGS 10s, 9.5s and PSA 10s. Nor does it include Crosby, Matthews, Marner, Laine, etc., etc.

Young Guns are as trimmed as the 2011 Topps Update Trout, 1993 SP Jeter, Contenders Brady, etc. But there's obviously no way to prove it 100%. I will do my best to get to 90%.

I'm just treading water for now and trying to keep up with the current auctions.

Unfortunately, hockey is no safer than anything else.

Accounting for duplicates, 8/10 of Matthews YG Black Labels have been sold via PWCC. How many were form the same consignor? 6? 7? All 8?

That hardly seemed worth the effort on that particular swatch, why risk the possibility of damaging the card JUST to add a minor 2 color piece would it demand premium pricing??

It's got to the point where as far as game used etc. if not personally pulled not sure what's original anymore!

I would hope that Upper Deck et al will soon come up with a light weight technology that encases or "windowpanes" jersey and patch swatches so that tampering becomes very evident. Perhaps a thin acetate shield sandwiched beneath the upper card stock. Currently it's really quite simple to re/re these swatches from most cards.
Maybe not completely fool proof, but at least it might be a step in the right direction. Messing with the card would be much more noticeable.
Expecting big consignment houses to research and document #'d cards seems to be a bit much for them- and maybe unrealistic?
Another member mentioned a manufacturer's photo data base of #'d cards. Logging this sort of imaging data through the production process shouldn't be terribly difficult or expensive.

Agreed. This guy is actually just dumb. Swapped a four color Brady patch for a lackluster Reebok tag patch. Why even bother?

That's the first thing I thought of as well. Why risk damaging an already high-valued card for just a tiny white/orange swatch? Doesn't seem worth it to me. Just keep the original card intact and sell it. But I guess it's an addiction for them at this point.... they'll fake anything for a couple extra bucks. And I understand on a McDavid that "a couple extra bucks" could be decent coin, but still... So sad to see.

And having an acetate cover would help but, while safer, I'm not sure the collecting community would like seeing every game-used card involve acetate. Once and a while is fine, but eventually that "look" would become overused. I like photo evidence better, at least on the high-end releases, but I'm not sure if Upper Deck would ever use their resources to have a program like that long term, sadly.

why are these being "brought to your attention" instead of being found by your employees prior to listing???

a few extra minutes of work in the beginning seems like it would save a lot of headaches later on.

PWCC should be launching an investigation with FBI. Get this #@#@#@#@ out of the hobby. They know exactly who is profiting from this, they can have a hand in stopping it.

PWCC, as the final seller, is profiting from these fakes and probably shouldn't be trusted to take much action.

PWCC are a big part of the problem. People need to stop trusting them. They are in on everything. They know a lot of stuff going on. Yet they still sell for all these scammers.

In case anyone is interested, I inadvertently stumbled into an unpleasant eBay experience with Gabriel Seraf and in the process I can provide 2 of his new eBay account IDs that I would advise blocking immediately.
