Default Anyone with TV repair knowledge?

One of the TV's at my place of work went out and they were just going to throw it away, it is less than a year old and is a 55in samsung smart tv, they are not cheap so I decided to take it home and see if I can fix it/find out if it is worth being fixed.

Model is a Samsung UN55MU6290F

When you turn the tv on the screen quickly flashes and then goes to black with nothing, haven't opened up the back of the tv yet, anyone know what it might be?

Did anyone try a factory reset with the remote?

In the old days you just wrapped some extra foil on the antenna then whacked it on the side a couple times and that would do her..

Try this???

Make sure that your TV is OFF.

Take your Smart Remote and simultaneously press Info + Menu + Mute + Power.

Next, enter the following sequence into your remote: Mute > 1 > 8 > 2 > Power.

Your television will boot up in service mode. Using your remote, go to Options > Factory Reset.

I have a similar TV that I bought in 2011. Samsung UN55C8000 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz 3D LED HDTV

In about 2013 or 2014 when the TV was turned on, the screen would go black and red power light would flash.

I can fix a lot of things, but never tackled a TV so I went to YouTube and found a short 1-2 minute video of a TV repair man showing a problem with the same exact model.

I pulled off the back and found a cold solder joint that had disconnected in the the power supply section, which happened to be the same exact problem in the youtube video. I re-soldered the connection, probably touched up a few others while in there and the TV has been working flawlessly since.

Not sure if that helps at all, but if you know how to research for service manuals, take things apart, solder, and put back together you might be able to fix it yourself.

Unfortunately, we are in a throw away disposable generation where things are purposely made to fail to force purchase of a newer model so sometimes the quality of things inside devices are shoddy.

The price of TVs is so low that it's generally not worth fixing them outside of the warranty.

In this case where the TV is if no cost to the OP, Godspeed in getting this thing fixed.

yes--could be a factory problem posted on utube that the company doesnt recognize. Or, typically this, at the power cord terminal that gets pulled, tweaked or pinched in the mount bracket.

Was the TV on 24/7 at your workplace? A lot of LCD TV's have their backlight go out if they're on constantly after some time.

Is the TV in a room where the humidity changes a bunch? Could me a moisture issue.

Is the source coming in to the TV from cable/antenna/hdmi selected properly on the tv? I know you said the screen goes black after turned on but some TV go directly to the last incoming signal source and get stuck there.

Does the remote work properly? Maybe the remote doesnt function properly to allow operation of the TV?

Just more possibilities to cross off your list to check.

And yes, some things are made so cheaply that replacement is better/cheaper than repair. A lot of Black Friday TV's sold at discount retailers are usually lower end models and they offer fewer features and lesser quality just to get you in to the store.

I work at a bar, the TV's are in typically from 9AM until 2AM the following morning

No, A/C is always on

Remote works fine, tested with other TV's

I used to work at a place that repaired TVs a few years ago. I don't know how much things have changed in the last year or so but most newer TVs we worked on are incredibly simple. I don't know anything about repairing them but I would often help out the tech by putting in new boards and such. Most of them have at at most 3 of 4 boards and then just wiring that goes between them. If you can get it diagnosed, and a repair makes financial sense, I would highly recommend doing the repair yourself. Most of time, taking the back off the TV is more time consuming then actually making the repair.

Yeah if you can’t do the factory reset then that sucks. Take it outside for target practice and get some enjoyment out of it.

I had a 70" Vizio that went out after a lightening storm. Was going to trash it but father in law said I should try to fix it. Did a google search and it said to try replace power supply board. Very easy to do and it worked. only $40 off of ebay

Typically under a year, samsung should be able to get you a fix for free under factory warranty.

I applaud you for actually trying to fix it. People go through TVs like crazy. A couple years and the technology is old

Yes indeed, I was baffled when they told me they were just going to through it away, then they turned around and just bought new one for $900.

Im going to open it up on my day off Sunday, see if I can figure out the issue.
