Default I know people hate change but

I’ve been thinking about baseball and how hard it is sometimes to stay really interested. I love baseball and try to watch at least a few innings of games daily but when it’s 162 game 100 doesn’t always have my attention. A lot of people here follow the minor leagues and I was wondering if MLB would adopt their playoff system.

For those that aren’t sure what I mean, MILB has a first and second half winner in their divisions. The two division winners then play each other for the championship.

I think this could keep the regular season more interesting by having two playoff runs, two trade deadlines (maybe 3 weeks before the half ends) and maybe teams who are out of it in on half could get hot and make a run.

I won’t pretend to have everything figured out but I’d say schedule all game 81’s the Sunday before the All Star break then the second half starts the following Thursday or Friday and everyone starts back to 0-0. I’d say keep all the individual and team stats going but just team records start all over.

Now bring on the stop changing the game it’s fine posts

What if each half is the same winner? Sorry probably a dumb question but I am curious.

I believe the second place team in the second half wins

62 games is more than enough to determine who the best teams are. 162 games is just ridiculous.

Would this possibly change that? If games before the ASB mattered a lot more

I would hope that they just don't have to play to move on and the team who wins both halves would just be the winner of that division? That way it would be beneficial to be better the whole season.

Teams would have a huge gripe, and rightfully so, if they win both halves of the season and then lose a series (or game, however they determine the winner of the division) to the team who finishes 2nd in the 2nd half and that team gets to move on.

Maybe the team with the best overall record gets home field

Stop trying to change baseball. If you're bored with it, go watch something else.

There used to not even be playoffs. Best records in regular season meant you made the World Series.

I can't imagine how much money would be left on the table if they eliminated the Wild Cards, Divisional rounds, and ALCS/NLCS.

That being said, I'm not in favor of THIS specific change, if it were to happen in the MLB. I honestly didn't know they did this in the minors.

Seriously? You must not watch much baseball. Very rarely are the “top 10 teams” the same from game 62 to game 162. Without looking it up, I would dare say that those teams have never remained the same. Someone always fades away and someone always comes out of nowhere later in the year.

Not even money but excitement. How many wild card teams have won the World Series? 4?5?

Maybe each team even has two cities they play in like the Rays will be doing with Tampa and Montreal.

One half is the Tampa Bay Rays and the second half is the Montreal Ex-Rays.

No.

I'd actually be in favor of going back to 154 games, but I know that would never happen either.

what if the 2nd place team in one division has more combined wins than the 2 top teams. It would be like the strike season in 81 with the Expos losing out.

and for those reasons , I'm out

Happened in 1981 bc of the strike. I personally hate the idea.

I wouldn’t mind this, it’s nothing too drastic and more off days leads to a better product on the field I would think.
