We are running our offense through Simmons/Tobias/Thybulle instead of embiid and crushing the Raptors. So happy we aren’t trying to force the embiid post too much anymore.

Let Simmons ball. The league needs him to be a superstar.

M. Thybulle +12 in 31:19 with 20 pts and excellent defense on 6-9 3-3 5-8 shooting.

J. Embiid -4 in 30:29 with 10 points on 7 turnovers with 3-7 4-6 0-1 shooting.

JUST SAYING.

Relax on the Embiid plus minus for a game, of course if Thybulle hits 6 3s a game he'll be first-team all NBA this year.

Everyone had too many turnovers but it wasn't just Jojo screwing up the final minutes it was Matisse and Tobias and Ben.

Thybulle is trending in that direction and I don't know about that though rookies rarely get that nod. He's actually leading the rookies in 3pt% right now, that's right, even higher than Tyler Herro. This is becoming normal for him let's not pretend like it's an outlier. I am amazed at where he's headed.

Embiid is horrible against the Raptors, it's not just one game, letting him take a backseat role and running the offense through Simmons/Tobi/Thybulle is definitely the right strategy against teams that are doubling him in the post. We totally need this kind of performance out of these guys for the playoffs. Also Tobias going 26/6/3, Simmons 16/11/9 makes their 3 turnovers a lot less harmful than Embiid's 7 on 10 points. Listen it's just good for us that he have the ability to take a backseat on the offense. We need to trend in that direction slightly. I am not shitting on Embiid though, he had many hockey assists. He's improving on passing out of the post which is good, other than the 4th qtr problems he had.

I'm confused on if you are trying to make a counter point, affirm my point, or neither.
You're pointing out random games here and there. That doesn't mean he'd score 30+ efficiently if he wanted to on a regular basis. He'll basically only takes uncontested shots around the hoop (which is why his shot attempts are low and will stay that way). Every player would have high efficiency rates with those kinds of shots.

But please, continue telling us how he could be a scoring machine.

I never said he'd be a scoring machine, so please stop trying to put words in my mouth.

It's cheap.

I think we'd all agree that the 76ers would be better at times if he were more aggressive with trying to score. Do you disagree?

Moving on to what I originally intended to post here... 20 for 25 shooting in this weekend's back to back. Not bad

He does plenty of that, but he also puts himself in position to score a lot more than he gets credit for. I’m not saying he’s running around like Steph out there. The 76ers are clearly still figuring some things out... I just think there’s an opportunity there to find more ways to use Ben.

But enough about that... solid win against a very tough opponent and Ben played well. His last few games have been encouraging.

Best player in the NBA over the weekend. Shooting 67% on non-heave 3s.

Agree to disagree. Both had great weekends. I'd just take the guy that scored 40 more points.

So total points determines who's better.....yeah, that's absurd but whatevs. The point guard's role is not to maximize his own shooting line.

I'll take 89 points on 64% shooting over 50 points on 80% shooting all while getting more rebounds, blocks, steals, and shoot a better % from the line also.

But again, both had great weekends. No big deal lol. You're a Philly fan... why wouldn't you choose your guy.

I'd say they both had awesome weekends and got the job done for their teams...

Who cares who did better, unless they meet in the finals this year.... then it'll really matter.

one of these guys gets easy buckets as a result of being on the receiving end of the #1 assist combo in the NBA

Simmons creeping back up in the advanced analytics...

Now 16th in VORP and 18th in Win Shares. Both 2nd in the East among guards.

Average Ben is a top 20 player. Aggressive Ben is top 5-10.

He's already top 3 defensively if not top 1, guarding 1-4 and sometimes 5. No one since Peak Lebron has been able to do that.

This is on point. Ben is the only player in the entire NBA to guard the 1-5 more than 10% of the time and hold every position below their points per 100 possessions average. He is certainly the most versatile defensive guard in the NBA and he's on that all-time list.

This thread has died down a bit, which is funny, because Simmons is having his best month of the season.

December stats:
16.4 pts
7.1 rebs
9.1 assists
on 62.1% shooting.

What's more is the way he is commanding the offense. You can see that he's been more aggressive pushing the action, and it's evidenced by his 120 Offensive Rating for the month.

For the season, he's now near the top of the East in a number of important categories:

Assists/Game: 1st
Steals/Game: 1st
Defensive Win Shares: 2nd
Field Goal %: 3rd
VORP: 4th
Win Shares: 7th

I'm pretty happy with what I've been seeing lately. Now the next thing for Ben is something that's haunted him in the past... consistency. Let's see if he can keep this up, or better year, continue to improve.

Simmons is great, with that being said I don't think he'll become the player we all wanted him to be.

If Philly ever forms a dynasty and wins multiple championships, Simmons will become the modern day Magic. (no, Lebron is not magic 2.0...his offensive skillset surpassed magic a long time ago)

Big *if* there though.
