I think your wife's reaction is how most people would react. I have heard of Rush, but I could not tell you the name of a single member of that band up until now. After watching some clips of him drumming, I have to agree that he was one hell of a drummer.

The greatest drummer of all-time in rock. (No disrespect to guys like Bonham or Moon, they were legends too!) Killer drummer, thoughtful lyricist, observant travel writer. He survived the wrenching heartache of losing a teenage daughter in a car crash and his first wife to cancer within a year of each other in 1997-1998, and managed to carry on after two years of soul-searching and aimless wandering on his motorcycle.

I 'only' discovered RUSH in 2005, in my early 20s, but they've been my favorite band since then, and I'm lucky to be able to say I saw them 11 times between 2007-2015 (twice on the Snakes & Arrows tour, and three times each on Time Machine, Clockwork Angels, and R40).

One of the things I love about RUSH is that the 'magic' isn't primarily found in the hits (though they are fun). It's in insightful gems such as The Garden, Middletown Dreams, Natural Science, Losing It, Everyday Glory, Prime Mover, Resist, Marathon, Presto, The Pass, Ghost of a Chance...I could go on forever.

RIP, Professor. "Signal transmitted, message received."
