Tried looking for a Kobe card in my collection, unfortunately I couldn’t find one. I just thought finding one would make me feel better

Default The Official Kobe Bryant Thread

Bought a Kobe card off COMC. Figured since it had a picture of him in his last game it was the right card

Today's news was not the kind of news that anyone wanted to hear. God does not let us know how many days we get on Earth. Live like today is your last day. Many have posted on Kobe's age and I think that makes us sense our own mortality. May God be with his wife and daughters.

I also put together the Kobe Panini set from 2012 including the card from Flawless that is much more sp than the rest of the cards. I think I will be looking through the 200 card set and remember him for the career he had and the person he became. How many current NBA players used Kobe as a mentor?

Don’t collect a ton of Kobe, but his 2008 Topps Chrome Refractor is one of my favorite basketball cards of all time. The layout, the fonts, and the colors just pop so beautifully. Most of all, though, the photo is just UNREAL. Kobe and LeBron locked in, as if we’re witnessing the precise moment LeBron goes to grab the torch from Kobe to become the new face of the league, and we can see Kobe saying, “NOT YET.” It’s an incredible, timeless card, one that takes on a totally new frequency of meaning this morning. May the families of all yesterday’s crash victims find peace.

Being an 80s baby, I was in my prime collecting years when Kobe came into the league. Sifting through my Kobe collection and especially reading the backs of the cards talking about Kobe being the Lakers 6th man really brought back memories. My personal favorite Kobe is this second year ultra gold medallion. Not expensive, just pretty.

Growing up I had always wished my dad had put away cards for me from when he was young - sadly, he didn't. As I got older, it became something I wanted to do for my kids. Late 2000's I started to put away sealed wax for them from my childhood years. My thinking was that some day I could share my experience with them and open some fun legacy wax. I thought similar age fellow collectors who remember riding their bikes up to the neighborhood card shop and spending hours to decide which one pack or single to buy with your allowance would appreciate this 96-97 Kobe rc year share:

R.I.P. Kobe, Gigi and the 7 other people who lost their lives.

I remember buying packs @ my LCS and pulled this.

Pulled this from a box break years ago as a redemption card. It took forever to get it. On-card auto #/25

I remember pulling this from the last pack in this box break. #/10

I was buying some packs of Trilogy and pulled this beauty. I've always thought this could be an all-star patch. However, on the back of the card it only said it's from a game.

Pulled this from a box break of Absolute. I would pull a Bill Russell auto auto just like this Kobe from another pack in the same box. Sick break.

Picked this up at a card show in FL around 2009. I always liked "The Glove". #/100

I pulled months ago and was so excited when I redeemed it. Would of been my first Kobe card. RIP Kobe, just like i'm sure this redemption card will as well. Oh well, win some and lose some!!

I just got back into the hobby a year or two ago so I missed on accumulating a lot of Kobe Bryant cards. Kobe was easily my favorite basketball player of all time and his death has been tough to deal with. I'm glad I at least have a few of his cards to hold onto and hopefully I can add some more "big" cards in the future.

I'm struggling big time with all of this. I'm sure many are but for me it's a 2 reason thing. First of course of losing Kobe so young in such a way. He was my favorite player tied with Shaq. I collected both of them heavily. Both since rookies up until 2006. I mentioned I had over $10,000 book value of Kobe alone at that point. Of course it's not about the value to me but just putting a number on it. I keep trying to reminisce of what cards I had but can only recall a few, mostly the big rookies like Topps Chrome, Finest, Finest refractor, EX-2000, Fleer Ultra Gold and some others. After that I just can't remember what jersey and auto cards I had.

Anyway, I'm just beating myself up for selling it in 2006. All of it. I only kept junk wax cards and my big White Sox/Frank Thomas collection. I started collecting baseball again last year but will not and can not do basketball. If I would have kept my full collection maybe I could but nope, can't after my "mistake" I wish I kept my collection and could have it back. I wish we could have Kobe back.
