It’s funny. I collected HOFers and Future HOFers around 2001-2008 (or so). Then life happened and I stopped collecting. I also completely stopped paying attention to baseball at all. I did keep the collection.
Last summer I pulled out the collection and updated it. I was pleased to find that ever single “new” BBWAA inductee was already in my collection! Jeter and Walker too! Of course, I also pulled a lot of autographs out and looked up there induction year just to be sorely disappointed... I have Scilling, Ichiro, Pujols ready to go. Also have Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, McGuire, Palmeiro... Looking at the predictions, I should have every BBWAA inductee for the next few years as well, then I’ll have to start buying again. In the mean time, I’ll likely try to fill a few holes in my collection. I only need 11 BBWAA (what I will likely focus on going forward), and I think I can budget for 6-8 of those (no Mathewson, Grover, or Keeler in my future...). After that, I’ll just pick up the new inductees I don’t have.

This thread is inspiring. Great idea! I recently have started trying to get 1 graded RC, Auto, & Mem card of current HOF’s and active players that I think are trending that way. It’s been really fun and adds a lot of diversity to my collection. I previously have only been a team collector.
I currently like to pick out a top 10 of each year the last 5 years from player debuts and that keeps things current for me. It’s all for PC and fun so I don’t mind if they don’t pan out but it will be exciting if they do! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm a HOF autograph collector....and yes....it is a good idea to get guys before they are inducted.....Note: I'm purely a collector, so I'm not looking at it in terms of a RC PSA10 this or that..
I think in time, every 500 HR, every 3000 hit, 300 win, and 3000k gets in: Pujols, Ichiro, Sosa, McGwire, Bonds, Clemens, Arod, Palmeiro, Verlander, CC, Ortiz, Sheffield, Beltre, Ramirez I think you pretty much have the locks: Miggy, Trout, Max, Kershaw, Then your other guys which, outside of steroid discussion, all are opinionated: Molina, Beltran (lol), Wagner, Viz, Helton, mcgriff, Mauer, votto, posey, pettitte, J Rollins?, Rolen?, Kent? Then you have guys on great trajectory or need to suck it up a few more years: Altuve (lol), Arenado, Cano, Freeman, Sale, Greinke, Some guys to look out for: Stanton, Machado, Yelich, Guys that have great shots in era committees: Kaat, Hodges, JuanGon, Garvey, Grace, AJones, lynn, lofton, BuckONeil, Dale Murphy, Parker, evans, whitaker, maris, Munson, Doc Adams, Dahlen, Harry Stovey, Oliva, Allen, Let's not forget the other guys: Managers/Exec/Umps: Steinbrenner, Epstein, Froemming, Joe West, Heydler, Piniella, Bochy, ….and then you have your Joe Jackson/ Pete Rose thingy. I mentioned a few older pre 1950 names.....but I'm sure there's some oddball names that may get in.... PS forgive me if I miss an obvious one....this is me with 5 min of thought.....

Lol, sounds like me. That's why so many of my posts end up mangled, my brain works at a speed far greater than my typing ability. That's not saying that I'm smart, just that my typing is that bad.
Also, after reading your post, calling what I do 'speculating' may be the wrong term. I have an auto of almost every name you mentioned (piss off Joe West). It sounds like I'm more of a hoarder than speculator.

Interesting Betts is left off here... especially as he has put up more WAR than half this list while being years younger than most...

To be fair, he didn't call it a comprehensive list, just one that was done with "five minutes" of thought. I'm sure that Bill would agree that Betts belongs in that group. There are a few others that do as well.

Among retired players appearing on the ballot over the next few years, here are the best players. (I’m not saying they will make the Hall, just identifying who I think are the best of the lot and who will get at least some consideration):
2021 Mark Buehrle Tim Hudson Torri Hunter Aramis Ramirez 2022 ARoid David Ortiz Jimmy Rollins Mark Teixeira AJ Pierzynski Ryan Howard Joe Nathan Jonathan Papelbon 2023 Carlos Beltran Francisco Rodriguez 2024 Adrian Beltre Matt Holiday Chase Utley Joe Mauer Adrian Gonzalez David Wright Fatolo Colon (if he doesn’t succeed in his comeback attempt)

It does not. May delay his inevitable induction, but he’ll get in eventually.
