I propose we refund federal income tax from checks Jan 1 to March 1 this and scrap the $1200 nonsense, cap it at like $2500 per person. Covers everyone's standard of living, doesn't pay people who aren't out money from virus, and doesn't encourage unemployment in future. Could also add like $1000 strictly to those collecting unemployment for less than 3 months

Doesn't matter. It's done.

I understand that but there will be a lot of people who milk it for all it's worth too. I personally think they should have capped it at 100% of someone's regular salary. To be making double what you regularly earn is ludicrous. And yes i think the waved the tax on the $600 bonus checks.

Still taxable. All unemployment benefits are still taxable. The stimulus checks (as of now) are not.

Because I’m skipping tv for the most part I’m checking in here for updates. Usernames unnecessary for the most part, I can simply label most posts as Fox or CNN and move on. Question:
So the stimulus will come from the Feds.
Regular unemployment through the state.
What is this extra $600(per week?!)I’m reading about and would that be added to reg unemployment check or paid by the feds directly?

Paid by the feds, through the state. Everyone on unemployment gets an extra $600 per month for four months. On top of state benefits.

On top of stimulus check.

Thanks brother. We’re doing pretty well. The wife took a 25% pay cut and is working 6 days a week, 10 hour shifts from home. I’m furloughed for 60 days but with unemployment+ and selling some cards we should make it through in decent shape. Hope all is well with you and yours.

We’re basically the only ones doing large amounts of tests/telling the truth most likely. Why does Italy have 7x our deaths, yet less reported cases? It’s all BS.

Thank you sir. $600/ month makes more sense. I wonder if they whack it up and add to the regular weekly checks or it’s a separate payment(probably). When would this unemployment “bonus” come through, late April- mid May? I’m assuming it will be retro to your 1st week of benefits?

I posted this in the CV thread.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/pers...Uxb?li=BBnb7Kz

Some of the logistical details aren't yet entirely pinned down, but one aspect that could cause considerable confusion is in determining income for purposes of the legislation. In an effort to get the checks out as quickly as possible, the federal government apparently intends to use 2018 reported income as filed on federal tax returns in determining eligibility. However, some believe that the final legislation could treat the payments as an advance credit that will be verified on 2020 tax returns. That raises the question of whether taxpayers will have to establish their eligibility again based on 2020 income levels -- and potentially have to pay back their stimulus checks if their income rose between 2018 and 2020.
