IndyCar is embracing online racing to keep fans interested while the regular season is paused. A six race season begins today around 4PM ET with the American Red Cross Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. It can be watched at IndyCar.com, YouTube and Twitch with commentary from the regular NBC booth of Leigh Diffey, Townsend Bell and Paul Tracy.
26 drivers are participating in a 50 lap race including IndyCar drivers Will Power and Sage Karam who are iRacing veterans and a number of less iRacing experienced IndyCar regulars including Newgarden, Rossi, Pagenaud, and Herta. NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson is not a veteran in anyway and I expect he will be a backrunner today in his IndyCar debut, similar to his NASCAR iRacing debut last weekend (his April test drive of a real IndyCar has been delayed). Robert Wickens has been trying to find adapted equipment and hopefully will be starting but without much practice. I will be keeping my eye on Scott McLaughlin, Australian Supercars champ, Bathurst 1000 winner and iRacing vet who will begin his IndyCar career with Team Penske today in an unexpected way. I expect a good show today based on how well FS1 did with NASCAR’s iRacing debut last weekend and the fact that Mr Penske is the new owner of IndyCar. NBCSports.com has full write ups on their site https://motorsports.nbcsports.com/20...-colton-herta/ Copied from link above: CHARITY: The opening event was named the American Red Cross Grand Prix to bring awareness to the organization and the efforts to encourage blood donations amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The American Red Cross faces a severe blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations during this period. This week's race will be on NBCSN live 2:30-4:00ET. The race is at Michigan International Speedway where IndyCar has not raced in over a decade due to the danger of the speeds possible. Some drivers will be streaming their incar views on Twitch and YT.
I wish Dale Jr had more time to practice this week but he was named as a nominee for NASCAR's Hall of Fame on Tuesday and has to have been busy because of that, on top of Amy being pregnant. He participated in practicing with the IndyCar drivers the past couple days but he left unexpectedly both days that I watched Scott McLaughlin's stream. Dale did well while he was there, he qualified fourth the first day, but he didn't participate in the practice race either day. He tried out his new streaming system and all seemed to work well. I hope he streams today during the race but I don't expect he will. https://www.twitch.tv/daleearnhardtjr88 Scott McLaughlin said he will start streaming practice and qualifying at 1:10ET today, that is 3:10AM on his side of the world. He has TJ Majors as his spotter, that guy knows his stuff and is fun to listen to. https://www.twitch.tv/scottmclaughlin93 Other drivers with live iRacing streams will be able to be found: https://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/iRacing.com https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...JAAQ%253D%253D Last edited by TomRacer; 04-11-2020 at 12:10 PM. |
