I know 3 local bartenders, none of whom want to return back to work because they're making more on unemployment + $600.

My BIL and FIL both also don't want to return back to work, because they are crushing it snagging unemployment + $600.

Anecdotal, obviously, but I'd say the majority out of work are making more now than they did at their full-time job.

So sad, they don't deserve to have a job when work opens up. I know a lot of people in that boat, here, too. Makes me sick.

Debt to GDP approaching an all time record. Of course, the all time record was after the Korean War and while we were still paying for WW2.

This is what happens when we only elect politicians that can’t say no to us. Does not matter the party. Each and every one of us wants to have our cake and eat it too. Flavors vary by individual tastes.

Better yet it is a "scientist" whom we are told to follow unquestioningly because, SCIENCE!

Yeah I'm torn on it honestly. I mean, who in their right mind would want to go back to work (especially in this climate) AND also make less money.

The unemployment (both state and federal) is already appropriated, so it's not like the money just goes back in the coffers should they return back to work.

It's hard for me to blame them when I'm all about maximizing your earnings.

An unintended consequence of the +$600 a week. Might end up helping the big democratic push of higher wages (more naturally of course). Which I am ok with, in certain regards.

I also know Bartenders that make 6 figures a year at good bars, who are hurting bad, because as you know....cash tips....well...I don't need to say it.

Anecdotal as you said, but takes us down a different road in terms of unintended consequences. That will hit this thread in the next 3-6 months

Yes, I think for most of the unemployed right now (not all), the $600 a week is gonna make them OK. It also de-incentiviezed "opening up" because why bother; people are getting paid to stay home, may as well stay home.

Could cause major issues come mid-July when the stimulus runs out but that's a lifetime away. Still 12 weeks left for most to take advantage of.

Right, I know those bartenders as well (though they don't tend in Austin, TX).

Most of my city is employed and our gig-economy is booming. Those in the service industry who are on the sidelines right now are cashing out to the tune of $1100 a week (roughly) plus earning in the gig-economy.

It is what it is. I can only speak for the people I know who relay to me the same information from their coworkers. Nobody is hurting who is unemployed. Obviously once the FED well dries up, you better get your ass back to work because that's supplementing the income right now. The employees have all the leverage though in my city.

Then to back track and say you care when you just alluded to the fact that you didnt is even more so extremely cowardly.

I am tough on people in here, but I have seen you mouth breath through many situations including talking out your toot about the transportation industry in here no less then a week ago.

I don't call this out to embarrass you, I just point this out so you can learn from it.

Go buy another 10k Mahomes card and tell then tell my local bartender why she should be ok with not being able to pay her rent.

Then tell me how you plan to fix that long term.

I'm going to give you a good piece of advice. Its much easier to say, 'yea I was wrong' then to die in that collapsing house you have built for yourself.
Again, you are proving the point. Please show me where I ever spent $10k on any card... ever. Please, show me and I'll shut up and never post in this thread again. If you can't, please keep your assumptions and other stupid ideas and fabrications to yourself.

Obviously reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. So I'll say it slower this time, you can fix the problems of the living, you can't fix the problems of the dead. That is why the number of sick and dying should be kept as low as possible. Your local bartender should be receiveing $2k a month from the government until this pandemic is over. I think that would help them a hell of a lot more than going back to working in dangerous conditions for low pay.

It was dumb to give the +600 a week. They shouldn’t have changed the program at all.

Keep in mind, many haven't seen a dime of that yet either. Even ones who filed right from the start.

My fiance and I have had our engagement pictures delayed a couple times due to the shutdown, but we're finally getting them done this Saturday. It's been over 2 1/2 months since I last got a haircut and as soon as the pictures are over, I'm having her buzz it off for me.

Not only are the coronavirus "VIP's" walking around with fresh cuts and pampered nails, they (and their families) are getting to do it in their vacation homes and out-of-state 2nd residences.

If they didn't already have large enough egos to begin with; having us peasants clinging to their every word as gospel while they get to live the high life must be intoxicating, to say the least.

True. Some have not, but will be getting big checks eventually. I do think the argument toward all of the unemployment numbers is muted because unemployment is now FDIC insured!

And that may very well continue beyond 18 weeks if the economy hasn't figured itself out yet. It's all so backwards and crazy, who knows what next week even looks like.

Actually just bought the Philips Norelco MG7750/49 Multigroom Series 7000 from Amazon Saturday because I need a cut and I'm not gonna wait anymore. Going to practice on my 3 year old son first ... exactly why I had kids.

Ha! I like it I figure if she screws up on mine, I'll be stuck at home for the foreseeable future anyway, so no one will see it.

Awesome. We did it people.

All we had to do was close the world! Climate saved!

This will happen but not on a grand scale (I think).

Job market is sure gonna be interesting if/when we're humming.

I don't disagree, but from my vantage point it's really just the service industry under this plight.

"Get back to work at my restaurant or your fired"

**looks around at 1000 other restaurants desperate for employees**

It's not like the boss has much leverage in this scenario that I can see. The jobs that have been shutdown are the "dime a dozen" variety (again, just speaking to what I see in my city).
