Default Why the increase in 2019 Allen & Ginter prices ?

Hobby boxes are up to $160+

Hobby cases are up to $1700+

seems like each week they are going higher

why ?

So they can justify charging that when 2020 comes out.

All the (dumb) new money coming into the hobby is driving prices for everything through the roof...

all products are going crazy right now. Even unlicensed products that I bought on black Friday 2019 are selling for triple what I paid for them. People are gobbling up all unopened product right now. I suspect that the card companies are going to crank up the presses and we'll see another over production era.

Adding a 'like' to this great comment.

Not that they're a huge deal in Ginter usually, but surprised this point hasn't been made yet- has any product with Tatis, Alonso, and Vlad rookies not gone up in price?

Possibly because 2020 A&G Chrome will change everything going forward and make the regular A&G product and the A&G X product less desirable in the future, and the 2019 A&G baseball product is the last year before the A&G Chrome product era...so I can see why it's increasing in value since future regular A&G and A&G X will be valued less in the new A&G Chrome era

Keep in mind Congress' $3 trillion stimulus plan....lots of people have received $1200 checks/e-payments from the Gov't, which won't last forever, so hopefully Topps isn't dumb enough to create more supply during a period when our overall economy is in a recession & experiencing lower economic growth...the people that have used the $1200 Gov't checks to buy cards obviously are people that didn't lose their jobs

Likely because MLB season hasn't started yet....I'm sure they will go up in price if MLB decides to start the season in July

2020 Heritage has also risen lately. Just a week or two ago I had a thought of getting a case and they were available under $1000. This week, $1100+ is the floor, and few listings on ebay.

Doctors and Lawyers sitting at home with nothing else to do since there is no live sports and can't go to the bars or Vegas, so they are spending money on something that gives them a tie to sports, gambling, and investing. Market will significantly cool as they all go back to work, Vegas opens, and live sports returns, in my opinion. I know I have spent more time on my collection during the lockdown than I did in the last 5 years.

Blame the influx of breakers. Too many with not enough product available because of delays and everyone staying at home with nothing to do, so hey, why not participate in a group break? Maybe once everyone starts going back to work, breaking will slow down and that will cause a drop in prices.

great points....I agree with a lot of what you're sayings....that's why Topps should NOT get greedy and ramp-up supply significantly because if this hobby is attracting new interest/collectors....the best way to keep them interested in the hobby after the lockdown is for new collectors to believe collecting baseball cards can be a good investment & hold value long-term....ramping-up supply during this period obviously reduces value of cards overall long-term, which will cause people to leave the hobby....hopefully there's enough smart people working at Topps to understand the risk of becoming greedy and increasing supply, even if/when the season resumes this summer
