Do you think the increase in breakers in the last few years has helped the baseball card hobby overall?

On a related note, all of my 1988 Topps Kevin Elster Future Stars cards have gone up in price to $56 each. No one will pay that for them, but that's the new price.

Update: They'll probably go up in price again to $62 each in the next week or so.

Depends how you define the "hobby", doesn't it?

It's increased wax prices across the board due to the ability of breakers to pass increased costs on to price-insensitive customers, which is good for distributors, but bad for actual collectors who just want to buy a box or two of a product they like.

I agree with you on that. Only positive on it that I see is the draw of new interest in the hobby.

Was only a few years ago when there was rumors Topps was looking at selling off the sports cards part of their business. I doubt they are looking at that anymore as it is a money printing machine for them right now, so maybe they will have more to invest and keep improving the products they produce. But my guess is that they will just keep producing more and more products to the point of over saturation and only a few will actually retain value longer term.

its fun product... but it gets to a point where you just cant open it...

Cost is 80-85 bucks... its hardly a decent break at that

But its not just ginter... Basketball and football is absurd... And it sells like it is at cost
