Default Panini Flawless Question

A little over a year ago I decided to try to put a 2018 Flawless Signatures /10 set together (sample card below). I am close with only needing a Case Keenum and Jerome Bettis to finish, or so I thought. Cruising ebay one night I come across a Flawless Signatures Rodney Harrison that looks identical to the card pictured below. This was really confusing because he's not on the 2018 Flawless Signatures checklist. After doing some digging I find out it was pulled from a box of 2019 Flawless. Apparently there are 'updates' from the previous years set and they added Jim Brown, Randy Moss, Rodney Harrison and Donald Driver. So my questions is this, how long will this go on for? Is there a set amount of years they'll keep adding 'updates' to the 2018 set? I appreciate any information you may have, I only started collecting again a year and a half ago.

This isn’t common. But it’s not uncommon. Flawless has had a history of including a few unreleased cards from previous years in the set. My guess is they do not wish to load such a high end product with redemption cards so if the card does not make it into paninis hand in time, it’s not packed out

Yeah it’s weird. Matt Ryan has a 2017 dual patch auto but the back says 2018.

It doesn't seem like it could be leftover cards not signed in time from 2018 because the info on the back shows it's from the 2019 set. So what are the chances they issue yet more '2018 updates' when the 2020 Flawless come out? My fear is they're gonna do someone like Brady, a guy I hate and would absolutely not pay the premium for anything of his.

This IS common for Flawless. In football it first came out in 2014 (released in early 2015 as it always is). The 2015 product had 2014 Flawless Greats dual patch autos that didn’t make it into the 2014 product. Since they advertise all on card autos and, until this year, no redemptions, they would release the fulfilled autos in the following years product. Now they are using redemptions but those are for digital cards. Now that panini has come out with their new product Chronicles, this is where you will see the previos years unfulfilled flawless product.

It shows 2019 because they can’t legally release a product advertised as a specific year if it’s printed for a previous year, unless it’s a buyback.

This is why panini honors flawless product doesn’t sell for as much as the actual flawless does. It’s unreleased product that has previous years design, but is not from the original set release so it does not have the same value.

Appreciate the information guys, guess I'll continue trying to complete the set and whatever updates they issue as well.

Just caught this... are you saying there's redemption cards in the boxes for digital cards? Why on earth would they need redemptions for digital cards?

How exactly would you insert a digital card into the box?

Good point... but now I'm onto another problem, WHY ARE THERE DIGITAL CARDS IN BOXES AT ALL? Holy crap I'd be so pissed if I bought a thousand dollar box of cards and they're giving me digital cards.

Excuse me for being tech-tarded but digital cards just rub me wrong. Absolutely despise the idea of them forcing that trash onto you when you buy a box of cards. If I pay for 20 pieces of damn cardboard I want 20 pieces of cardboard!
