I think he did say that it was a reference to breaking the horizontal format of the card? Didn't hint at it being a political/religious reference.

Although if it were, it doesn't seem disparaging. People are way too quick to get offended/confused nowadays.

I would imagine the correct amount of fingers. It’s Ermsy that always puts 3 fingers. Unless I’m missing something.

I disagree, I think for this set, with these artists, and these times- I’m atheist/apathetic/science-driven and even I believe it’s perfect storm for having religious statements/social issues at the forefront. Especially with everything going on now, little additions of that stuff are GREAT reminders of the crazy summer that was/is year 2020.

At what other time could Topps incorporate those things into a set? An ondemand or even packed out products of a direct religion/social issues set is too divisive and is just overall in bad taste.

But, Topps can let stuff like that go in this set and let the artists do what they want to. Pretty much every “final” card sent to Topps has to go back to the artists for legal tweaks anyway. If Topps didn’t want the barbed wire or thought it was too political they would have told beck to change it.

He already stated the broken barbed wire was referring to breaking the landscape format and making the card vertical.

My great grandfather was %100 German and was put in a concentration camp for speaking out against the war in 1943 i believe

My Great Uncle and Grandmother (his first born son and daughter) were both in Hitler's Youth around that time

The US put 120,000 Japanese into concentration camps during WWII

That is correct. Sandy is not behind barbed wire he is breaking through it and standing above it in reference to breaking the format of the card (Horizontal).

Have to appreciate that I am Australian. We are taught nothing about Jewish history or people in school or our culture, there's not one thing I know about their history. I have just learned of the Holocaust and the Jewish tie to it today. Barbed wire is a metaphor for many things. If you read back in this thread I've replied about it multiple times. It has no political/religious reference. Just like Americans know nothing or very little about the history of Aboriginals in Australia and would not expect you to.
