Question: In what era did you guys start collecting? Who were some of your favorite players growing up? Griffey & Frank Thomas for me.

Something I'm picking up on is that not a lot people on Blowout like Ben Ballers cards, but he will probably end up with one of the highest PRs, and likely the highest value card (Ichiro) from the project.

I grew up in the 90's and his cards are most reminiscent of the 90's inserts I collected as a kid, so naturally he's one of favorite artists in this project.

George Brett or Roberto Clemente so far for me.

1. Mid 80's through early 90's.
2. George Brett, Frank White, Dan Quisenberry, Gary Carter, Mookie Wilson

Good thoughts on the Baller cards. He falls the lower half in terms of appeal for me.

Haven't seen an AP drop that brutal in a while... 500 Server Errors as far as the eye can see. Is the "baller effect" a real thing now? Baller Bots Did This Crash?

Started in the 90's (34) as well. Griffey, Jeter, Ripken and Chipper for me.

I do like the borders on the Ripken. As well as the Clemente. Both cards are pretty sharp looking. Love the AC/DC font too on the Ripken. Solid 2-pack.

I have become a big fan of Sophia Chang's work, but I think she took a Clemente quote out of context and included it on the card.

"I am more valuable to my team hitting .330 than swinging for home runs."

The way she portrays it on the card makes it looks like he was "Swinging for Home Runs"

I guess he felt the dystopian/post modern look was more appealing in light of certain events.

Not surprising. The woke brigade will take hold of the cards and narrative for the foreseeable future. All the more reason why p2020 is transcendent of the hobby.

1977 for me. First it was Yaz, Rice and Lynn for me. As time went on, really got into collecting Wade Boggs and then Clemens. My heyday was from 1981-87. Loved all those cards, and the cool thing is you can find sets CHEAP now, all over the place.

I'm glad Ben Baller turned the Ripken card into a protest variation. Ripken probably appreciates it. Ripken seems like the type of person who would be protesting and looting with these groups.

Do the subjects of these have any say/recourse, in case the renditions don't align with their political views? Or they simply don't like the cards?

I'm assuming no, especially since some of them are no longer with us?

I'm sure they have no say. I just know personally, if it were me, I don't want to be a part of any political statement on either side of the isle. Cards are something that actually bring people together from different backgrounds. Very few things do that these days. I don't want the wedges to start separating the hobby people.

That was the first thing I noticed as well. Still an awesome card I will be grabbing.

And this Ripken/Ben Baller card is a protest card compared to his others why? If it is, it doesn't bother me, but I don't see a big difference from his previous work.

People like this Premium guy are why many people say all Trump supporters are racist.

Semi-off topic, but did anybody get the seller e-mail survey from eBay. I just had a GRAND old time ranting about the awful return policies. (And yes, I realize order cancellations are bad, too).

Of course I don't expect anything to come of this, but it felt pretty d@mn good.

I'm assuming they (or their estates/likeness holder) probably have a veto or at least Topps is obligated to maintain their image. They definitely have a review for legal (Frank Thomas's Auburn Jersey for ex that showed up on the BB preview but not on the final), not much of a stretch to think that they have one for content. For example I don't think they'd let someone make a McGwire card with a Steroid reference on it.

Good thoughts on the Baller cards. He falls the lower half in terms of appeal for me.
Is George Brett your main player to collect from this set?
Also, which artists are your favorites? I'm building on the idea that collectors' favorite era in collecting will be a big influence on their preferences in Project 2020

Which players are you collecting in this set/ which artists are you gravitating towards most?
