Well I did say at the end of my post that SP or SSP inserts still can have significant desirability. I guess I could have worded that better and stated they can have as much if not more desirability as the base and it’s parallels.

What I was really pointing to, or trying to point to, was the difference between the base card and it’s parallels verses the non SSP inserts and their parallels. Which is the example that was being discussed in the “Rated Rookies” base v. “the Rookies” insert.

That's what I kind of thought. Thanks for the link!

I take it you bought the Chainmail on eBay? Shocked it lasted that long, was a good price considering what the last few Shining Armors have sold at.

Inserts are still cards in his rookie season and still considered a “RC” by most and is obviously sought after but it should always lag behind the base card.

Just as a note, some inserts still can have significant desirability If they are short printed.
Thanks mate, appreciate the follow up.

Appreciate the info...There's way too many shady people like this on eBay. I will make sure I never buy anything from them. Blacklisted.
For the most part I've been satisfied with the condition of the cards I've bought off eBay. I've only sent complaints to two people who claimed the cards were in mint condition, and ended up having relatively serious flaws. They both said they weren't aware of the flaws (don't know if that's true or not), and we were able to work something out. I sent one of the cards back, because fortunately the seller had another one, and he mailed that one out to me after. As for the other seller, he sent me a free 2017 Mahomes Optic The Rookies to compensate me, which now is probably more valuable than the card I actually paid for LOL

Nope that wasn't me. You talking about the one that sold for $449? Wish I had, that is a good price. I do plan on getting one eventually though. Right now I just have his Shining Armor, Templar, Chivalry /199, and base from that set.

Hadn’t looked at prices in awhile. Anyone have a general idea as to what a ‘17 Optic Gold Rated Rookie Auto /10 in PSA 9 would run today?

Really depends on the auto, most of the Optic Autos are pretty terrible quality. Still a very desirable card regardless of autograph quality though.

More than likely a 9 type auto. Completely agree his Optic autos are incredibly streaky :/

Bought it trying to hedge against a ‘17 Contenders Optic Gold Auto of his. Haven’t seen a ‘17 Contenders Optic Gold pop though

Did a BGS 9 Red Optic Contender Auto /75, BGS 9 Mint, just sell for $16,000?

ttps://www.ebay.com/itm/2017-Contenders-Optic-Patrick-Mahomes-II-RC-Red-Auto-75-BGS-9-Mint-Chiefs/203050257791?hash=item2f46bd0d7f:g:x0QAAOSwPvxfEI7-

I tried looking on watchcount but it was showing full price? Can anyone confirm?

Tell me about it... I bought Hunt's Contenders auto rookie literally a week before he got in trouble and all his cards tanked...

Yes, I can confirm because I bought that sucker and just received it in the mail today. As other owners of these cards have attested to, they're seriously awesome in hand!

I know another BGS 9 sold not long ago for almost half that price, but this one has higher sub grades and there was a PSA 9 that sold for $32k (w/ the 20% buyer fees) on the Heritage Auction site late last week. The seller had originally said he'd accept 14 - 15k but as two dudes were getting into a bidding war on the HA site for the PSA 9 during the extended bidding session, multiple offers were coming in for this card & I knew that if I wanted it I'd just have to bend over & hit the BIN as the seller was out on vacation.

For me, this was a bucket list card that I should have bought long, long ago (much like the Prizm Red SSP), so I figured f**k it as I have enough other equity built up in other Mahomes, Lamars, sealed wax, etc. that I can unload to pay for it. I also have a Red Optic /50 Rated Rookie BGS 9.5 Auto with a bold non-streaky 10 auto, the base /99 Red in both BGS 9.5 & PSA 10, the Red Optic RoY Contenders /49 in PSA 10 as well as PSA 10 or 9 versions of the Red /99 The Rookies, Gridiron Kings, Illusions and AKA so really wanted this guy to round out the Optic Reds, so to speak.

Also, there's a dude now selling a different PSA 9 and he's asking $32k based off of the HA sale...

Not to muddy the waters, but the galactic is actually a parallel (like a prizm gold or a PMG) and can be a parallel of either a base card or an insert. This is true in basketball, football and soccer.

While you are all bragging about your shiny cards, new cars and big houses, I'm out picking up this monster. I present to you, the cheapest Mahomes pack-pulled auto out there. Boom.

Check on the back. If it manufactured in the same year as his rookie year, it should be considered his rookie card/ auto, no matter it has rc logo on the top or not.

Yes, you are right. Some particular cards are different. Like 86 fleer Jordan#57, many people still consider that one is his main “rookie” card. That’s pretty much out of my knowledge....

Been buying up psa 9 prizms. I think long term its a card that a 9 grade will be just fine on. Seems about every 3rd or 4th copy I get is fairly clean. The spread between a 9.5 and a psa 9 isn't large enough yet, but would consider cracking if things ever normalize.

Awesome and congrats! One of my favorite Mahomes cards!!! As you stated, when you get it in hand, any hint of regret goes away.

Do you think that still has more room to run higher in the short term? Aren't they around $2k now?
