I haven’t seen that in my area yet, so not sure. If it turns out to be true I would be very careful if I were MJ, as if I were in panini’s shoes in this scenario I would pull whatever product MJ is diverting to BO and sell it directly to BO myself. No need for MJ to middleman a transaction with an account they already do business with.

Maybe there is a supply chain issue with Sports cards and you are seeing the effect of that so MJ is filling the missing inventory with other items. Remember MJ supplies a lot more than sports cards so they might just be filling the space with random stuff until sports product starts coming back.

This seems like more of a supply issue than a complete change in business model by Panini, Walmart and MJ. Didn't Panini just state that Illusions is a Walmart exclusive? That makes me believe that Walmart is still supporting cards.

One last thing, if MJ stopped selling to Walmart, Excel (Target's rep) would just swoop in and take that business.

I watched this break on YT just now. I don’t know the breaker personally, but who would join those breaks if he doesn’t show every card.

Everybody who participates is a regular at the LCS, and we trust him 100%. We previously did everything via text, so this is something new. No one has ever had an issue.

Not basketball card directly related, but one of the biggest MTG channels on YouTube has in some ways confirmed that MJ Holdings and other companies may not be stocking retail any long.

oh wow... very interesting. from my terrible detective brain: unofficially MJH withheld products hence why shelves are empty. And then sold to 5 other "big" clients asap to recover losses. Which means we will never see $20 blasters ever again at target or walmart. I don't see MJH selling products to LCS's because that will be 1000s of contracts they'll have to sign so all the top online card shops will just get all products for cheap and they can control the market?

RIP to me never getting to open any more boxes hahaha

I bought a half case at $700 per box no tax at 1 AM last night after watching a few breaks.

Most I have ever paid for a box and probably stupid after the flood of retail, but we will see!

Wax seems to only increase and if Prizm Megas are going for $500, $200 more with guaranteed hits seems not much more.

Appreciate this. Very interesting.

I don't know if the theft is relatable to sports cards though. I think bribery and secondary market are more the issues. If it was bribery, i don't think the middle men would still be in it. So, i guess this MIGHT be about stopping the sale of sports cards at msrp from the get go.

I do hope this is not true about sports cards though and that this MTG fact was connected to sports cards. I know a lot people have posted their stores being without cards, but I have heard that happening to stores before and it can just mean those specific stores only stopped.

I have heard it about specfic stores to but the thing that feels different this time is that there are like 4 or 5 of us that have noticed the sports card section going away all at the same time and being replaced with more Magic/Pokemon etc.

It feels very coincidental that so many of us would be seeing the same thing at the same time accross the country IMO but it could be what someone else mentioned that Wal-Mart just doesn't want empty shelves and MJH doesn't have the cards to fill it right now - hopefully.

I'm thinking about going to a Walmart that's a little further out to see what's going on there. They usually get two trays of everything so they're a bigger card store than others. If they filled in the holes I might start to assume that something is afoot here. I get wanting to fill shelf space and that Walmart is all about it, but if people like Rudy are coming out and admitting that MJ Holdings is sick of getting ripped off and wants to make some cash, the obvious choice is to sell off what you can.

The Walmarts I've seen aren't looking for shelf space.... they have serious inventory issues in all departments.... just an observation from New England....

Where in New England? I am in MA and all three Wal-Marts within 30 minutes of me have all but eliminated their card sections and filled in the space with other stuff.

IDK, I just can't see ripping this over lets say, Elite at a cheaper price. Similarly limited, but with more / better content. I've been surprised before though.

I have not seen a fresh batch of anything in at least 3-4 weeks and I check 3 walmarts along with 2 targets.

I am hoping both can be worth it. I like Elite as well.

Well, it's at least a little positive that some retail has already come out - the con, no WMs yet that has been posted about . . . (Chronicles)

I'm all for Panini using new photos on cards and not reusing the same ones over and over... But really? This is the best image you could find for KG for his auto?

Guess I'm not buying this one lol

I think bribery is huge but I'm sure the sports cards see their fair share of theft as well.

I've seen numerous posts of people getting boxes or cellos for the price of one cello. My biggest take away is the self checkout and cashier's to an extent.

It's so easy to scan a hanger or blaster and bag a megabox. I was buying some cards once and I happened to get lucky and clean out a new release and I was scanning too quick I guess so it gave me an "item not bagged" message so I had to wait for someone to clear it. I was ready to explain what happened as I probably already had a bag literally filled to the top with product and the lady just looked at it, asked what it was and scanned her badge. She didn't even bother to verify what I had scanned.

It's bittersweet to not have retail but online above MSRP is realisticaclly the only chance a lot of people have.
