Default 18-19 LBJ Optic and Prizm Base Cards

These cards I have noticed currently sells for $30-$50. Why so?

Somethin' like a cross between Teddy Aguhob and Kaboom Mystery Packs. I got that Givenchy denim flow.

Edit: whoops, thought you were talking about 2019 prizm base, but I see you're referring to 2018. Those prices are still crazy. Even crazier is that the 2019 base Lebrons are selling for between $80 and $100.

My theory: Wax prices are incredibly high and no one can buy wax to pull their own - It's LeBron James, its a prizm card, both highly collectible. I don't like the price tag, but demand is there since no one can get wax.

insanity. it's a common card, I gave one to my stepdad in his Xmas card last year because it was basically a throwaway but thought it would be cool for him to have a LeBron in a Lakers jersey. I'm gonna bet I gave him a gem copy and he threw it away a week later

His Topps Chrome cards are common cards... no one seems to debate the value of those?

Seriously?
You're looking at it wrong.

The reason: demand.
If you're asking why is it in demand, that's a different question entirely.

People dont follow/collect the Heat like they do the Lakers?

Just look at Wade -- spent a majority of his career with the Heat. Won several championships. Should probably be in discussion as a top 50 (or better) player of all time. Yet his hobby love is a fraction of LBJ. Not saying it makes sense or is right/wrong, but that's the way it is.

1. It's LeBron
2. It's the Lakers
3. 2nd year, team rookie, etc. type of hype for cards recently
4. Like others have said, expensive to rip so people buy the expensive singles rather - Newer people in hobby are not accustomed to base cards being low $ cards, so they just pay the current going rate, and there are a lot of new people in cards
5. More hype (or pump)

How new are you to collecting in general? If very recently you have an excuse. If you have been at this a bunch of years then you have no excuse at all.
