I may just be naive, but I heard an interesting bit of information from an LCS in Tacoma, WA. After notifying me that they buy lots of base cards (common practice), he told me that once they get a million, a bulk packer picks them up free of charge, sorts, collates, and re-packages them as retail product sold to big box stores!
Again, it may be because I'm still fresh to the hobby, but is this true? If so, we are essentially buying used cards when buying retail! |

I think these cards are the ones that are already open in blister packs and in those "collector boxes".

Yeah definitely the ones that end out of those 250-count boxes for $10. That's a killing compared to what the distributors pay for them.

If you ever buy cards from wal-mart or target, these are those cards........well not so much target..target at least uses some retail boxes still.........but yes, those blister packs, and blister boxes, that is exactly what they are. Ever notice on the back of the package, where on a hobby pack it reads "this product was only supervised by blah blah, to assure the proper colation of numbered and insert cards" is gone and replaced by some odd string of letters and numbers (ex.: M7X-HG6F89OP) these are those packs.
