That's why it always grows larger. Most of the time even when discussing cuts to various programs or agencies, it is just a reduction in the rate of increased funding. Say some agency gets last years budget +5% extra in funding every year. Then one year they get cut to 2.5% instead of 5, the big government crowd goes into a tailspin lamenting a 50% cut in funding to XYZ agency/program.

We don't do budgets any longer so the growth has been baked in without a second thought. Incredible really.
That makes sense... because I can’t see the actual cost being anywhere near $3B+. Truly mind bottling considering the rest of the country operates on a budget and has to justify that budget.

My bud was an Army Captain and explained the military budget to me, or at least the basics... funding is based on need and need is determined by how much is spent. For example, if the military is given $1B but only truly needs $300M in a given year, they find ways to spend the rest to ensure funding doesn’t get reduced under the rationale of, “you only needed $300M.” It seems like every program and government entity does as you said... how much can we get instead of how much do we need.

Better budgeting, smaller government, more money for Americans. How do we make this happen? Vote third party and cross our fingers?

Hey everybody how's it going? I haven't been online the last few days as we experienced a hurricane here in Iowa. Most of you probably haven't heard a thing about it as the MSM was self ejaculating over Biden's VP pick.
Hundreds of thousands without power at first and still plenty without. 100+ mph winds with virtually no warning. So many acres of crops completely flattened, trees and power lines down all over the state.
Crazy times.
Anyways just catching up on things. Orange man still bad? Geech still getting his news from facebook and Instagram? Jd, Jojo and Heely still crazy?
Sadly we lost one of our cats a day ago. We came home in the evening to find the cats food and water scattered across the kitchen floor and no Jasmine (our kitty) to be found. She had been prone to seizures and we thought maybe she had one which caused the food/water mess. Typically when she had a seizure she would come out if it but would act very confused like she didn't recognize her home or us for about an hour. We figured she must have got out the cat door leading out to the deck, wandered off and got lost. She rarely ever left the confines of the deck. I spent several hours that night walking the neighborhood but it was late so I didn't feel right shining a flashlight in everybody's yard. Unfortunately she was almost completely deaf as well and since it was late I couldn't yell out her name while looking for her. Never found her that night.
The next day I went to the local shelters to see if she'd been picked up but no luck. On the way home I drove around the neighborhood to see if I could find her or ask anyone I saw if they had seen her. Sadly about 2 blocks away I found her in the street and she had been hit by a car and didn't survive.
Sorry to go off topic but I figured I could also add her picture, and everybody loves cat pictures, right?
I also wanted to add that one of my coworkers is sick and has tested positive for the virus.
Found this out from another coworker. Funny thing is, my company has been strictly enforcing all the covid stuff, masks, social distancing, and nonstop emails, notes and meetings about it. Now that someone has tested positive.....crickets.
Sorry for the long post but I'm making up for lost time.
So far 2020 really sucks a big one.
Hope you all enjoy your weekend, I'm working 12's the next 3 days. YUCK.

Edit to add, RIP Jazz, you will be missed.

Thank you.
You don't want to imagine, trust me. 59 years old and not ashamed to admit I cried. Part obviously because she was gone, and part because I knew I had to go home and tell my wife who took it really hard. Again thanks.

I have been there my BO friend. I had to put down my dog of 14 years due to health reasons when his mind was still sharp. He was my best friend all those years, always loyal, always positive when times were tough. I don't have a problem admitting I cried like a little girl when it happened.

A month later I had to put down my cat of 16 years.

A little time will help in the healing process, as well as sharing your emotions. Remember the joy your pet brought you and when you are ready, consider adopting another friend.

No one should be ashamed for crying when a loved one or pet dies. No shame there. Just shows your normal.

I'm kind of curious as to how many here have heard much about the storm that blew us away. Let me know please.
Here's a couple links showing how bad it was.

RIP Jazz. Sorry, brother.

The loss of a pet (loved one) is one of the only times it is acceptable for a man to cry. The only other time is the when you first see the Grand Canyon.

Based on a CDC study about 6 weeks ago, and using up-to-date data on deaths, 14,000 people in USA have died from COVID with no underlying conditions. No clue on ages for this but using the data we have, that would say about 2800 people under the age of 65 have died from COVID with no underlying issues.

I read about it moving towards Chicago and was wondering if it would make it here. (I live in Southern Ontario-2 hours from Detroit). I had no idea the amount of destruction it caused in Iowa.

What is the status of the storm now? Has it fizzled out?

Oh yea. It was absolutely horrible, the worst I've ever been in, but it passed through the state rather quickly. It blew very hard in my area for only maybe an hour, hour and a half at most and then calmed back down. I think the fact that there just wasn't any warning is what was so surprising.
With tornadoes we get a little warning but this time not much of warning at all.
Still a lot of stoplights not functioning. Kind of weird the power outages are numerous but also scattered. I have pile of branches in front of my house the size of an SUV and I don't have one single tree in my yard.
A couple pictures added, my brother's house with a big branch on it and he's still waiting on it to be removed, a picture of a neighbors truck with the front end smashed by a tree, this tree was pulled out of the ground by its roots which are about 15 foot in diameter, and a picture of a neighbor 2 doors down with a huge tree on top if it. You have to look in the background to see it. Another one that was completely ripped from the ground. I hope the pics aren't too big, and I hope I got the right ones. Its hard to tell from my phone.
Ecit: Oops, the last picture is a big branch that fell just perfect where the branches straddled a streetlight. Pretty precarious the way it's hanging. Still hanging there as of today.

We heard about the Iowa Derecho here in ND. The devastation there is just unreal.

We had a similar weather event roll through here yesterday morning. Winds topped out at only 60-70 mph locally though.

Sorry to hear about Jazz. Losing a pet is so hard. I thought I could handle losing my lab a couple years ago, but when I had to tell my daughters we were going to lose her, I turned into a mess. So much for being the tough guy. Still hurts today after seeing your post. I still have the tail feathers from our last pheasant hunt.

I hear ya man. Its hard just typing it out. Gotta love our animals.
That first link I posted with the radar imaging is crazy.
Amazing how big and fast it was. Cedar Rapids east of us got it much worse than we did I believe, along with states east of Iowa.

A few more interesting pics I borrowed from friends on Facebook. I have a bunch but I don't want to clog up the thread anymore than I already have.
If my pics are too big someone let me know and I'll delete them. I can't tell on my phone.
