It is weird.... but I think it's more "meh, I'm not buying" with Mr. C compared to vitriol for [L]ol and opinion that Vides spends only 2 minutes on each card he does. At lease Cartoon has a theme and it's obviously "art", but for those of us that are here because of the baseball cards, Cartoon hits some and misses some.

[L]ol has put together some interesting cards, but they don't seem to belong in this set.

Vides is a great artist who didn't do "enough" with his opportunity (based on other work we've seen of his).

I'll own some of each artist/participant's offerings when this is all over.

Exactly! 20 different people can have 20 different favorites and that is the beauty of this set. Collect what you want! And also know there are a lot more people reading this forum than you may think. We just don't all post. I finally jumped in yesterday because my guy Naturel was getting some love while Oldman continued to take his lumps. And those are my two personal favorites. No matter what, this set has brought me back to collecting baseball cards though. And it's pretty awesome.

Agreed. Which then makes little sense to come across as hateful or disrespectful if someone doesn’t like a particular artist.

I dig OMA's whole vibe, so to me what he "does" is considered art. The pics he chooses to post (not the cards, but social media) are always pretty cool, retro and thought out/thought provoking IMO. Choosing the "correct" or "best" image to use isn't probably a 5 minute ordeal. It takes some thought, crafting, etc. I like how he explains the photo he chose each time. His set is going to look really good when complete.

Anyway, I agree with others this set really made collecting fun again... Learning about the different artists. Blake's youtube streams have been great lately [especially with ThoseBackPages, great info]. Following the artists on other social media platforms have been awesome. The discords where you can actually talk to them.

Can we get a Sunday pump, let's get this puppy moving. Shipping is catching up. I think momentum will come back.

I do have a question, in the beginning when you bought a card... let's say Ermsy Trout. How LONG did it take to get in hand? Was it quick? Less than 2 weeks? If we get to anything resembling that I could see PRs going back up because of confidence in Topps. But if they go back up again is Topps able to handle it this time?

I digress. Long live P2020.

A future theme that would be interesting would be a simple tribute of each of a player like Mantle, Robinson, Mays, Jeter, Griffey, etc. the G.O.A.T. of their era players, and have different artists replicate each Topps (standard designs, not Finest, Chrome, Bowman, etc.) Card issued through their playing career.

.....

Don't forget that the Mantle family has their exclusive licensing agreement with Panini, so we won't see any new Topps Mantle cards made as long as that agreement is running. Never say never -- who would have ever thought we would see any Griffey autographs or post-career cards (like Project 2020) from Topps, as he was such an Upper Deck exclusive guy for so many years, but here we are.

Shipping was pretty quick. Think I got my 10 pack of Jeter Saladeen within 10 business days.

The next run on P2020 will be once current cards selling at 3-4k arrive in hand and sales of those cards start increasing to $25-$30-$35 on ebay. People will then want to hop back in. The bottom is VERY close no doubt. A great time for collectors and speculators both.

Since Mantle was brought up, and some other players/ideas for future iterations of this...

What players/cards aren’t featured in this Project 2020 that you wish were?

I was thinking about this and I would have loved to have seen Randy Johnson in this. I think the art could’ve been really creative (references to him hitting a bird with a pitch, for example). I get that his rookie card isn’t as iconic and there’s already the ‘89 Griffey so they wouldn’t have two ‘89 cards in this anyways.

I think Ozzie Smith would’ve made for some really fun art too.

If OMA ever makes a companion card to his McGwire, he should swap out Big Mac's photo with one of TBP.

This is interesting. I think they didn't want too many Mets or Yankees cards, and as you mentioned, didn't want repeats from the same original set. I also think they shied away from RCs that featured multiple players, like a Schmidt or the famous Pete Rose rookie--though they probably would have avoided Rose, anyway.

Also, besides Jeter and Trout, none of the cards were from after 1990, limiting the options.

Wish there was a Montreal player, though. The Expos were fun.

I'd say specifically I would have enjoyed Vlad Guerrero, Sr., Tim Raines, Miguel Cabrera, Hank Aaron, Pete Rose or Mike Schmidt.

I do appreciate that cards that might not be such a big deal now, but were hobby treasures in the past (e.g. Gooden, Mattingly, McGwire), were chosen.

But they went with the ‘69 Nolan Ryan over his ‘68 RC with Koosman (as well as the ‘82 Ripken Traded over his real RC), so the same could be done for the ‘64 Pete Rose, ‘69 Johnny Bench, ‘71 Thurman Munson, or ‘74 Schmidt. Most of those are pretty classic cards.

‘54 Aaron and Banks would be good. As would 1969 Reggie, 1974 Winfield, 1979 Ozzie, 1991 Chipper, 2001 Pujols, 2008 Kershaw,

I would have loved it if they had done Hank Aaron and Chipper Jones. I also think the artists would have had a lot of fun with the Ernie Banks' RC.
